View Full Version : Have you ever let a blog just die?

It's well covered that most blogs die off within the first 6 months.
My question is this, have you ever just let a blog die?
* Did it die because you didnt have time to write for it?
* Did you lose interest in the subject you were writing about?
* Did you decide to move on to something else?
I've had a few half hearted attempts at blogs myself so I'm curious to what the reasons were for other bloggers letting their blog rot :)

Never. That said, I've only ever run two sites properly, and one of them is still new...
The other blog (More of a website than a blog tbh, but it's running on WP now at least. :) ) is on a topic that I lost interest in a long, long time ago. I loved having a website/forum/galleries etc. though (No ads on it). That aspect of the site was so entertaining (And so rewarding. Learnt most of what I know about community that way), that I kept at it. And still keep at it. :)
I don't like the idea of just letting a site die. That feels too much like giving up. I would either close up publicly, pass the reigns elsewhere, or keep at it. Pure neglect seems so wasteful... :(

Yes. I am guilty of a few 'dead' blogs, although I did sign off at the end. They were both personal blogs - I finished one because it was about living in Berlin and I had moved, the other was a personal blog which my friends were lurking on instead of communicating with me, so I stopped. That one is not viewable by the public anymore but the Berlin one is still floating around.

I've had a few half hearted attempts at blogging in the past. Usually I got bored because nobody was really reading. Now, with FeedBurner and Analytics, I can actually see I have an audience.
It's always nice to know people want to hear what you have to say. :)

I let one go once...but it didn't have a clear focus or theme, it was just kind of "there". I believe it was a blogspot blog that I switched to its own domain.
That was in the past, when I knew a fraction of what I know now. Too bad I couldn't have shaped it up a bit, could be worth something now!

I am fairly new to the blogging game and in the beginning started with too many blogs and have since let a few wither. I wouldn't say they are dead. Now that I have more knowledge and experience I am working to bring them back to life with fresh templates, content, and in some cases names and focus. Short answer...no but almost.

I have favorite blogs that I really enjoy reading and it feels so sad when you learn that they're dead. The usual reasons behind these things is when the blogger can no longer find a nice topic, and no time to update. Very tragic indeed.

I have one blog on a subject I can't post often on, more of a rant place than anything, and really didn't get much traffic.
It was a great learning experience, though, and when I launched my new blog, I got serious and added feeds, submitted to directories, AND I'm posting every day reliably. That's the biggest thing, I think. People come around and come around, and if there's no new content, they just bail.
I suppose feed readers change that somewhat.

I must have let 6-7 blogs die (i.e no longer update them)
I found by trial and error 4-5 blogs which work best and concentrate on them.
Trying to do 10 would be counter productive.

So far, one blog. I'd had a personal blog before. I just stopped updating it around the time I really started Webmaster-Source (and NTugo).
Also, I sort of neglected my Harry Potter site a little since this summer. I've been trying to keep it from dieing, but I've had a lack of time.
Really, I need to find more writers. I'd like to find some real Harry Potter maniacs to help write for The Site of Requirement. And I need more bloggers for the NTugo blogs.
@Michael. I didn't know you had another website. I suspected, but you never mentioned it before.
