View Full Version : Unread posts indicator
Any chance of having a visual indication, on the front page of the forum, of when a section has new/unread posts inside of it? At the moment there's only the time displayed and I don't always know what time I last checked a section and so often have to take the time to go into every section just to make sure which isn't the best use of time.
Most forums I'm a member of have a different version of the section icon for when there's new posts in it, which is helpful. But even if it's just a different colour used for the time of the last post when there are new ones it would allow quick scanning of the front page.
Alternatively, if there already is something can you let meknow as I haven't spotted it yet.
Cheers :)

I use the new posts (http://www.bloggingtips.com/forums/search.php?do=getnew) link to get all the new posts. Since this isnt a very busy forum even if you check once a day there is only like 2 pages of posts to go through.

I don't like to use anything like that as it dictates the order I read in. I prefer to choose which section I want to read based on my interest at that time without having everything jumbled together.

Hi Hurricane
I can do this no problem :)
I had an icon for forum rooms with new posts and forum rooms with no posts but I have designed unique images for each room.
So I need to design a unique indicator for each room. What I can do is either design a grey version of each icon or perhaps just use a blank white image. What would you prefer? It's fairly easy to do either so it's up to you guys :)

Grayscale version of the image sounds better than white image.

Grayscale sounds good to me.
Cheers Kevin, and ditto what Indyan and Sarah said - greyscale over white. Although a colour version that just has muted shades would maybe do as well and maybe without changing the design as much.

I've added some icons for rooms without any new posts. I just faded them.
For example :

Old

What do you think?
