I just know about it, but i think this kind of ads not too effective since my experience of same ads type but from adbrite.
I find there is less ads and sometime ads is not available/unrelated
And not all people like this type of ads (hey, please, ads in a article :D)

Well, i can't try this yahoo ads since yahoo publisher is only available in US

wow. this is a big move for Yahoo. can't believe they are doing this now. I just hope they succeed. They have been beaten so much. I feel sorry about this company. They are among the pioneers of the internet industry now, they are nearing to $5/share. I just hope Jerry Yang came up with a better brilliant idea not just following the tail of Microsoft.

well, yahoo need to make more and more improvement and innovation just like as athlon24 said. We know yahoo is punch by critical hit by google.
Anyway, but this kind of ads is not an innovation, it's already used by other PPC such adbrite, yahoo need to think something more great and get people interested.
Anyway, will google adsense will make some ads like this also?

Hmm..interesting. Expect the quantity of in-text ads across other websites to increase significantly now that a biggie like yahoo has given this form of advertising a certain respect.

yeah that's right. But honestly, i think it is already late for Yahoo. I don't know what exactly will happen to them right now as Microsoft doesn't want them anymore. Everybody thinks last February that the offer of Microsoft in $39/share is their best option, but their greed hunts them now.

the CEO stepped down today (so say BBC) with the failure of the google and microsoft deals, their revenues are dropping...so it is no surprise to see this.

If you want google to keep on improving and keep playing nice then competition if vital. So yahoo is neccesary.

That's a cool picture. But I like the attitude of Jerry Yang. He a real professional. He will be there until they found some other guy that could do the job. by the way, he appointed just in last July i think and that time, the company is already in peril.

The way he handled yahoo during the past 12 months was anything but professional. He refused to sell yahoo to ms even when the deal would have been just what yahoo needed. Then to prove his point he got yahoo into a deal with google which fell through. By the end he had to eat his words and almost request ms to buy yahoo again.

I agree Indyan..Yahoo currently stands nowhere against Google which is leader in Search and Email Market. And MS is ahead in atleast their software section. In which section does Yahoo leads is confusing. Their latest Yahoo! Buzz is also not very appealing. All news on frontpage of Buzz are from popular websites and not a average blogger. Digg is much better for it.

Well to be honest I dont want to be on yahoo buzz. It can send you hundreds of thousands of hits, and that would kill me (and most other low profile websites).

i didn't even know what's yahoo buzz. is it digg like? well, for us here in the philippines, Yahoo is the most used email and for chat, everybody is using yahoo messenger. but i think, they don't have any revenue in those two features because it is free.

@athlon24
of course yahoo get a revenue from that 2 service, there is "paid email account" and yahoo also sell direct ads.

Anyway, yahoo already have more competitor because in other thread i find that inlinks make system like this but the ads is not showing using annoying pop-up like yahoo or adbrite do :D

yahoo mail and messenger brings a lot of eyeballs to yahoo and is critical to the survival of yahoo! in fact they belong to the core services in yahoo.

athlon24
11-21-2008, 05:51 AM
yeah, those two services is core but I think the revenue that they are getting from these two services cannot compensate to their expenses. these two are free services and it is rare for people using it to click on any ads.

How do you know? What access do you have to their stats and how do their stats differ from, say, Google's who provide a similar ad supported service?

Actually, he is wrong. Yahoo mail isnt a value added service. Its a critical component that is profitable.
