I have some hosting with 1and1 - steer well clear if you want decent support, they are terrible. I had to buy some more hosting with different requirements for a site I am having built and found it incredibly hard to find any recommended UK hosting. Like with anything I guess people have had good and bad experiences, but most of the hosting in online discussions was US based. I finally chose EUKHosts, its too early days for me to say if the servers are reliable, but their support seems pretty good so far, with MSN chat and an online forum.
What is everyone elses opinions on UK hosting providers?

coming from the uk myself i have some experience. On the whole i would say that most uk companies are overpriced
the last uk host i used was KDA Web Servives (http://www.kdawebservices.com/index). they have a forum (http://support.kdawebservices.com/forum/) as well and i can strongly recommend them. well priced and the support was top notch
I only left because i upgraded to a dedicated server 2 or 3 years ago (and they only did Virtual Web Hosting)

My first experience thus far with reseller hosting has been with WireNine (http://www.wirenine.com). I get amazing service with them. I don't think that I have waiting for more than 15 minutes to get a response from them via email no matter what time of day it has been. I don't think they are UK based but they certainly fit the bill for me here in Canada.

Which one's in India is decent enough, and payable via PayPal? After all, what will I do with the $100 prize money? :D

Generally, UK Web hosts are more expensive than their counterparts across the Atlantic. The main reason for this is higher bandwidth costs in the UK, compared to US. As a result, the profit a UK host makes on your average hosting account is very similar to that of a US or Canadian host, despite the higher cost to the end user.

I didn't realise you were with WireNine, Stephen. I know the owner, Ali. I've done some work for him in the past, and we chat on occasion. He's a great stand up guy. :)

I think UK hosting is more expensive simply because of the dollar. It sucks.
It's a nightmare being a UK freelancer, paid in dollars these days, because you are effectually being paid less than you would be if you lived in the US. Hosting is one of those rare occasions where things work out nicely the other way around for you, and you get to buy a US service for cheap. :D

Amen to that! 90% of my income is in dollars. Each month I get hit harder. It finally worked in my favour when I was able to convert some of my money to dollars last month when I crossed the pond for a couple of weeks. :)

You have to wonder if it will ever turn around...
I have some money still in dollars at the minute. I'm not sure if I should convert it now, wait for the dollar to improve again (If it ever does...), or just start buying a lot more US products!
