Just downloaded the public beta release of WP 2.7 and I have to say it is sweet! Gorgeous new admin (which we already knew about) several nice new features including a built in upgrader, sticky posts (no need for that whole featured posts thing any more) and much better comment layout control.

Plus in the admin you can drag and drop a lot of the boxes around on the management pages, and also selectively hide boxes that you don't use, clearing your screen of clutter.

Obviously with this new version due for release in just over a week I wouldn't recommend upgrading your live site with the beta (well you could if you wanted to!) but if you've got a development site or run a local server then it's worth a look

You can get it from http://wordpress.org/development/2008/11/wordpress-27-beta-1/

I will wait for the final version before trying my luck on beta...though I know its still safe even If I go with the beta version as of now also.

Are there any risk if I tried to upgrade to the Beta 1? Is there any possibilities of data loss? Maybe I will try to upgrade already. You mentioned about one click update. That is one thing that I'm really waiting. I always feel lazy to upgrade into new version. :D

I will also wait for the final build, mainly because uploading takes too much time over here.
@athlon24 : it's always smart to take a db backup before upgrading. Also disable all plugins before the upgrade.

I see. Saying about the backup again. I am always lazy doing necessary things. But I think I can't help it, i'll be needing to backup before I do some stuff.

By the way, when will be the official release?

The final release is due on November 10th.

The one click upgrade will most likely deactivate your plugins anyway, and then reactivate them, I know the plugin does.

I wouldn't upgrade my live site with the beta, I've just had a look at it on my own computer.

Update: It's not due for release on 10th November but the end of the month now as they've been delayed. Not sure whether I'd upgrade to the beta yet or not.

I'm looking forward to it but think I will wait til the official release too. The built in upgrader should prove incredibly handy.

For those who still find lazy upgrading to Wordpress here is something for you: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordpress-automatic-upgrade/

Though it can't do for beta versions...but for final versions pls use this.

Yep, WordPress 2.7 will not be released on November 10th. Based on the contacts I have, they are aiming to have a Release Candidate ready for November 10th. Depending on all of the testing that takes place, we will see 2.7 in the publics hands either at the end of November or my guess is, December 1st

what do you mean by release candidate? What is that? another beta version?

In a cycle of a software there are alpha releases, beta releases, and release candidates before the final build.
RC builds are generally feature complete..and only bug fixes are performed on it. The purpose of releasing it is bug-fixing.

Yes it's now due for release at the end of the month however a release candidate, that should be pretty stable, is due for release at some point during the month.

By the way if I upgraded my blog into this beta version, is it possible if I want to rollback?

Backup your database and your existing site, then yes. If you want to roll back you can just upload your database and the previous version of the site.
