I did few guest posts. In pure traffic way it's equal to usual link out from that blog so the more popular it is the more traffic it will send you.

Overall it also adds bit of awareness to your brand. Also it's good for networking - if you do really awesome post it's easy to end up on blogroll. Such link on popular blog will send consistent and extremely targeted traffic.

It all depends on how large blog you are writing for is. :) Writing for equals is friendly favor, writing for top of your niche is good promotion.

I wrote a 2 part series for a busy blog about 18 months ago. I still get traffic through from it. I've possibly gained a few readers from it too.

There are pros and cons to guest posting. The main pros are that as you say, you'll usually get a link back to your own site, you'll get more exposure to that post than you would probably do on your own site, more exposure usually means more comments, and you can continue getting traffic through (if it's a good post and ranks well in the search engines) whilst that post is left on the other site.

The downside however is that you may write a post there that you'd rather have on your own site. You have to take the time out to write a post which is going to benefit the blog owner more than it'll benefit you (I'm not saying it won't benefit you just won't as much as the blog owner). Also, it depends on how well received guest posts are on the other blog. I tend to subscribe to a person's blog to read their posts, not someone elses. The occasional guest post, I don't mind seeing, although I rarely read them, however I unsubscribed from the same site when the guest posting was taking over the site. Obviously that shouldn't be your concern but just remember, guest posting on a blog with say 500 readers may only get 50% interest.

Of course it depends on the site you're posting on. You need to make sure there's enough readers on there to get the benefit of guest posting, make sure they seem to be active too ie. commentating.

If you are not sure about doing guest post for not much benefit - offer to exchange guest posts. It will give you something to publish instead of one you are giving away and is indicator how serious is other party about their offer.

I like guest posts but that doesn't mean I have "free content for grabs" slapped on my back. :)

Well, inviting a guest blogger on your blog at this stage may not be a good idea as most guest bloggers are concerned if the traffic does justify the effort put in. Perhaps when you have a decent amount of traffic, you might reconsider the option. In any case, it's good to think over it now.

I took some time out and specially wrote a guest post for a reputed blog and send it via email. I even got the confirmation(though I had to ask for it) and was assured that it will be posted. But then after few more days, it didn't appeared. And then suddenly, after few days a post appeared on site that no new guest posts will be accepted...and exisitng will be posted...I still waited and then my patience ran out and I asked him politely to remove it from queue and instead posted it on my own blog.

That was my not so good guest posting experience. I didn't like this type of attitude towards guest posters...He should have immediately replied with status and should have notified me with updates about it so that I don't waste my time over checking each day that when it will appear or not.

The host blogger has the right to reject the post we submit if they don't really like it. But what pissed guest blogger is how these host blogger handles the situation. This reflects attitude and sincerity in what is offered. If we want to stay long in blogging, we should take note our reputation and reputation with other bloggers. Replying to other blogger is not a hard thing to do, so always do it.

Well i never offer myself and got refused, and reading your post makes me must ready to receive any result, it's received or refused....Yeah, we know we're not perfect, our article is not always interesting. To all who ever refused, don't give up...!!!!

To be rejected should not make a blogger to give up for it is not even a failure. What a blogger must do is to reflect and learn from every single failure and move on. Who knows, when you become successful, maybe someday the one who rejected you will ask to guest post on your site.

Haha, but when that time is come, it will be hard to request me to write a article for other blogger hehhee (it's too valuable :D)
