I just launched my new blog site few days ago and if it grows I am planning to extend my income in offering privates ads. Usually, how much is your private ads? What are your current stats? Alexa? PR? and Visitors per day? And usually, what are the terms? Any insights is much appreciated.

I am not at the point when it matters to my blog but best advice I heard is - increase price until people stop buying, then lower a bit. :)

So, possibly, how much is a good starting offer that it can give? Some prize that will be fair for me and for my advertiser, I hope? Anyone who has experience selling private ads out there?

I found this calculator and I have no idea how accurate it is ... but you can give it a try:

I do not sell advertsing (yet) and I haven't decided how much I would charge yet either so we are in the same boat and I can't offer much advice there ... sorry. *SmiLes* Suzanne

That tool is a bit too optimistic. The price suggested by it is way too much and even at 1/3rd of the price, I am finding it hard to sell private ads monthly on my blog.

And a tool cannot be a good judge of how much the ads should be priced or when it should be sold. There are a dozen more factors which should be included for it.

I haven't done any research on it yet ... so it it's worthless then definitely don't use it. LOL.

When I'm ready I will look for blogs that I think are similiar to mine (rank, traffic, readership, etc.) and see what they are charging. Even then ... you have no idea if they are REALLY filling those spaces with paid advertising. They could be affiliate ads, a friends ad, an ad exchange (which I will probably try first) ... or whatever.

I'm hoping those who do charge and actually sell ads will give us some guidance on how they got their start. *SmiLes* Suzanne

I've never sold advertising privately, but when I have been asked I've taken the price that TLA charges for a link on my site and inform the person of that and then offer a slightly lower price. A friend of mine recently sold 6 months for a small ad button on a gadget type site for $40 a month, plus the offer of them paying for 5 months in advance and she'd give the 6th month for free, so she got $200 in one go for 6 months of advertising.

In stark contrast, I've been offered $15 to add a short paragraph on about 10 different popular posts on my site, each paragraph would have 5+ links in, and the $15 was for the life of the blog ie. a one time payment. I almost fell off my chair laughing, but I politely declined :D

I get these lifetime link offers all the time. Most of the time they offer less than I would charge for a month, nevermind a lifetime.

I can imagine. TLA estimated over double that for the same site. I wrote back and offered them a single page link for so much and that was it. I didn't want content at the end of my posts. They never came back to me. I guess a lot of these advertisers are just hoping to find someone who's not as clued up and will maybe just say yes without thinking.

Listening to your lifetime offers, here is a new case which is happening recently with me...more so after getting the OIOPublisher plugin installed. I have been getting repeated link ads and even paid reviews being submitted by Russians which are totally spam/illegal and even porn links and with no payment! I don't know what's going on their mind and why do they submit when they know in no way I would accept them with or without any payment for them.

I think people like that just hope that the blogger is naive and won't think or notice things like that. Plus, I wouldn't be surprised if it's a bot that submitting the details. Probably programmed to hunt out the footprint of the plugin/script you're using and just submit to it.

These types of offers you are all getting are just ridiculous ... but don't forget ... just like any other type of "spam" it's just a numbers game and obviously SOMEONE'S taking them up on this crap or they would just fade away.

A girlfriend of mine and I were making jokes about all of the penis enlargement spam we get and thought of doing a spoof site about it ... well I happened to do some keyword research and I couldn't believe the numbers!!!! Knowing that ... it explained why this spam wouldn't go away ... someone was buying it!

There are those out there who would take $15 for those ads Sarah ... and that's sad for them ... and bad for the rest of us. It's good that you knew better but sadly many won't . S
