Dawud Miracle has been continuing this debate over at his blog
Should I Date My Blog? (http://dmiracle.com/conversation/should-i-date-my-blog/)
An interesting discussion has sprung up. Worth a read :)

That's interesting. I think that it really depends on the content that you are serving up. Like the Dawud points out, if the material is timeless and unlikely to change (such as blogging about history or food) then I see no good reason why there should be dates on the posts.
On the other hand if you are blogging about something that is constantly being updated and changed such as technology, I would say that post dating is paramount. This prevents your readers from using information (possibly to the detriment) that is out of date.

Im of the opinion that unless a post is as relevant in 6 months time as it is now, you should always put dates on your posts.
However, a few major bloggers have disagreed with me (for example Darren Rowse)

What about on Blogging Tips though? If you want to find out the year that a post was made, you have to look at the comments. (Not really a problem. You'd expect people to think to look in the comments I guess. :) )

thats a very valid point Michael - I'll make a note to add a year to the date area. It's not something I have thought about too much because the site isn't even 6 months old though (but again, valid point)

Ahh yes, sorry! I wasn't here at the start, so I keep forgetting how young Blogging Tips really is. You wouldn't think it to look at it! :D

Well, dates are important if what's written is really history-worthy. But if its something that is worth considering, let's say after a year, then dates are not really that necessary.
