I assume you're using this? - http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=134521

If so then looking at it and the comments at the bottom, you install VB first, then install WordPress (although I'm sure the order of those two isn't an issue) then install the bridge. The bridge then alters or adds to WordPress. Where the bridge goes, not sure, I'd imagine it's a VB plugin/extension so treat it as one and put it where extensions usually go.

It's fairly comprehensive so I'd read through the page and the comments to ensure you do it all correctly.

Thanks for your feedback. Can we discuss it here? :)

Should i install vB and WP in the same folder? or i can create different folder to avoid files to mess up.

I'd put them in separate directories personally. Or have one in the root and one in its own directory. I would imagine that once you install the bridge in VB it will ask you for the paths, database etc. to gain access to WordPress. However I'm only guessing. Your easiest option is to try it and see on a test set up, or back up everything before trying it out on your server.

it doesn't matter which one is installed first. I don't believe it matters if vbulletin or wordpress is in a seperate folder or a subfolder or whatever as long as the databases and files are on the same domain (ie. they link to each other using absolute paths).

I haven't tried the bridge though so as Sarah says, the best thing to do would be to install both, apply the bridge and see how you get on. I did look into using the bridge for here however there are some limitations by using this bridge so I decided against it.

Good luck with it, let us know how you get on with it. I'm interested to see how it works in practice :)

Yes the blog section og BT is wordpress and the forum is VB. They aren't connected in anyways. It would be good to integrate some functions however there is no gurantee that any bridge now will be supported in the future. Keeping the scripts seperate means that they can always be kept up to date and there won't be any problems with integration (which is a problem when you start integrating scripts).

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare sanitize_url() (previously declared in /home/workoff/public_html/blog/wp-includes/formatting.php:1170) in /home/workoff/public_html/forum/includes/functions_wysiwyg.php on line 56

Anybody can explain what goes wrong?

The forums just use the same header and footer as the blog - thats it. :)

as per the instructions

VB User ID: This is the userid comment threads will be started with IF the author is NOT REGISTERED with VB.

VB Username: This is the username comment threads will be started with IF the author is NOT REGISTERED with VB.

VB Forum ID: This is the default FORUM id where all comment threads will be posted unless another is selected. This also will indicate what forum will automatically be selected in the drop down menu on the write page.

Forum URL: This is the URL to your forum. NO index.php, NO trailing slash. Example: http://www.yoursite.com/forum

Forum Relative Path: This is the RELATIVE file path to your forum. So if your forum is located at http://www.yoursite.com/forum then the RELATIVE path would be /forum.

Database Prefix: This is your vbulletin database prefix. If you do not have one, then leave this blank.

I assume the first few are the ones giving you problems. The VB User ID is basically a default userid to use if someone is not registered to make comments on your blog. Therefore it will be a number -ie. admin's user id is 1, the second person to sign up in your forum is 2 and so on.

The VB Username is the username of the default user mentioned above.

The VB Forum ID is where you want all threads to be generated when you make a post ie. when you post on your blog a thread will be generated in this room for comments.

I have not tried to use this bridge but if you are struggling to install it my advice would be to use something else.

I ran a sports based forum about 6 years ago using vbulletin and I use to apply all the latest hacks. This was before plugins so anytime a new version came out I'd have to spend 4 hours reapplying the hacks etc. I love VBulletin but with large hacks such as this there is no guarantee that they will be supported in a year or two and even if the original author does support them, you might find that future versions of wordpress or vbulletin conflict.

I don't want to put you off but these are the reasons why I chose not to use the bridge. My advice would be to do the same setup as here - ie. keep the blog and forum seperate. However, if you want to have more of a community feel around your site then you should consider using a portal script.

Visit http://opensourcecms.com/ - you can test out hundreds of blog and portal scripts for yourself and see if there's something there that suits your needs :)

I think the idea Kevin is trying to suggest is if you want a blog/site and forum connected, your best option is to use a CMS that has the two. ie. not vBulletin or WordPress.

Have you tried looking at bbPress? It's the forum created by Automattic who deal with WordPress too. It's not as fancy as vb but it'll probably integrate a lot easier.
