Hi,
What is involved in moving a wordpress blog to a new host. In particular how do you best move your sql database?

its fairly easy
you can simply export and then import the database or you can import the posts and details from the old server to the new host - eg. import the posts onto a fresh installation of wordpress

How can you import the posts after you've changed the nameservers?
I mean when you get a new host/server, you get the ns to be pointing to the new host, and hence you can't use the import posts wizard in wp can you?
Please correct me if I'm wrong,
Thanks :D

you can still export your files from your old host. You will just have to access it directly using the ip address instead of the domain name. All you do is click on export and then you go to your new host and import the file :)

If any of you guys are struggling with this just email me and I'll do my best to make sure the move goes smoothly. All I need is login details for your host etc and I can transfer the site for you

For what it's worth, most Web hosts will transfer your account from your old host to them at no cost. As others have explained, it's usually a very straight forward process, and your Web host should be able to do it inside of 10 minutes. :)

I'd rather do it myself for the experience(not much, but the little things to add up) :p

I've moved 2 of my wp blogs to a new host.
IT was really simple:
- D/L the MySQL database
- D/L the wp-content folder
- Change DNS to point to new host
- Install WP on new host
- Copy(Replace) MySQL Database(With phpMyadmin) and WP-Content folder.
- Done.
