All these days i have been hearing only one thing, that is make money out of blogging? I am sure there are lot of purposes and goals to set and achieve (and money is one among them)

What are your blog goals and purposes other than making money?

I think to have a consistent established group of readers is very important. But also it is important to have strong Organic Search Engine Traffic Success accomplished by good SEO.

Long term goal is to make a comfortable Living at something that has Substance and provides value to others. ;)

To be honest, I started it to make money, but as time has passed, now I want to share all the little knowledge that I have accumulated in last 2 years with my fellow bloggers. It gives sense of satisfaction.

Mine is to try to help educate. Most of my posts are reactive, and aim to answer questions in greater depth or address misconceptions that I see on a couple of web developer forums.

I initially started blogging for fun. It was a hobby. Something I started doing because a lot of my friends were doing it and I felt I had something to share.
Then somewhere I realised - Hey! I can make some money out of this.

I am not a pro blogger. Blogging is still secondary and its something I do only when I have free time.

I guess I just "fell" into it too. I started the blog as a way to share news and events with family and friends ... and then I posted something a little more business related and it just went from there. Now occasionally I will tie in family topics as they relate to my business. Now that I've made a little money at it ... I can see the income potential and if I make money at it ... I can "afford" to devote more and more time to it ... so that's my hope and dream. *SmiLes* Suzanne

Ther are plenty of different sub-goals for me. Like tap into new techie areas, share knowledge, make contacts...

But if I have to formulate one big strategic goal it would be - make a dent on Internet landscape. Overall it's just one more hobby to see how far I can take it. And I am serious about my hobbies. :)

@metrix, don't make a blog just for fun, it's useless, you must have specific goal....

If you see blogging as a job or a chore then you're going to lose interest rapidly. You need to enjoy what you do, same as with your work/job. If you don't enjoy your job your heart won't be in it. With blogging, when your heart isn't in it then it shows through your writing.

my own goal in blogging is two way. To help myself and to help others.
Helping myself, of course is to earn some money and to enjoy the process of doing it. Also, i doing that, I gain more knowledge and experience. In helping others, I am try to provide valuable information to my readers and I also make sure that they enjoy every article that I post. Still, in helping others, I believe my earning is not only for me. I want to spend it in good cause. :)

i wonder if there is a people so idealist become a blogger. What i mean "idealist blogger" is a blogger who spend their time and power to creating usefull content and 100% for helping people, not just for money.

oh yeah, advice for blogger which have goal to earn some buck :

"FOCUS in just 2 PROGRAM"

I find many people join for many program which makes them not focus, in the end, they ended up by failed. I advice you to focus in maximal 2 program, or if you're fulltime online businessman, you can join for 3 program. This will make you focus.

Yes there are plenty of people around who do that. I don't write on my site for money. I may mention a product or a service and use an affiliate link just to maybe make a little off the sale, but for 99% of my posts I'm writing articles to hopefully help others out. Same goes for hurricane, who posts about 2-3 times a year if we're lucky, his posts are very long and there to explain to others about a particular subject, and he's not looking for anything in return.

There are plenty more people who write helpful articles or tutorials and are not doing it for the money. Plenty of blogs out there don't even have advertising on.

I totally agree with Sarah. Skelliewag.org is one of the money making blog that has very very useful information and valuable content but doesn't have even one advertisement. She does not make money in that site but the contents are really worth to pay. So if you are just starting to blog and your main purpose is to make money online, it is going to be a struggle. Don't make money your first priority when starting your blog.

yes, if we making our blog full of high quality article, we don't need to searching money, but they will come automatically :D

Anyway,
Ever hear yaro starak? The creator of e-book titled "Blog for profit, blueprint"? Is he idealist?

athlon24

it's very hard to make a statement about the person especially Yaro. He's one of the guys who mentored lots of people making bucks in their blogs today. What i can say is, he writes quality contents and makes some money in it. i really don't get what do you mean by "idealist."

I find this thread so interesting ... It is OUR OWN choice as to "why" we blog. I personally wouldn't pass judgment on any of you for the reasons that you blog.

If it's purly for profit ... then I wish you luck with that goal and let us know what we can do to help you achieve it. Many of us like helping others and hope our content and thoughts help others with their goals ... and if we can make some income while doing so then is that wrong? For some writing is theraputic and will help them feel good ... used as an outlet.

I don't believe that one reason is "right" or "wrong" ... it's such a personal choice. Whatever your "reason" I do wish you well with it. *huGs* Suzanne

@athlon24
what i mean by "idealist" is blogger who build their blog and fill it with high quality content and they spend time and effort for it, 100% not for money.

I'm sure there are a lot of people who blog because they enjoy it and don't need to make any money at it ... but there are also a lot of people who have discovered that they can enjoy doing it AND make a living at it.

We had a house fire about 3 years ago and I couldn't find any information online to help me deal with what I was going through especially with dealing with the insurance company. I started a site http://www.firenowwhat.com and I had hopes of keeping it up and helping a lot of people who had also had a fire. I didn't know anything about SEO or websites or anything ... and it became so exhausting to work on the content that I stopped working on it *sigh* ... I have hopes of re-doing the site and getting it found in the search engines to hopefully help a lot of people and I wouldn't care if I ever earned a dime off of the site ... is that the idealist you are looking for??? LOL *huGs* Suzanne
