great one, i'd also like to add doshdosh.com to the list.

though the site is more of a social marketing related one, it still is relevant to bloggers.

i don't your opinion with this guys, but I think john chow is not a good resource anymore. Honestly, I'm not learning much from him unlike before. Problogger and even other blogging resources are doing much better than him now. But the thing is, because he has his name in pedestal already, that's why people are still commenting in his blog. :D peace john.

I'll also add, skelliewag.org. She doesn't post much but when she does, it is straight from the heart of truth. :D you will learn a lot from her blog. She is a regular guest writer in Problogger.

This is a great list ... any I would've added are already here. I do kind of agree about the John Chow comment. I don't see a whole lot of advice there any more ... seems like mostly ads and where he's been to dinner ... Haven't even checked in there for some time now ... I scan the digest when I get it ... but it doesn't draw me in.

so do you think johnchow PR will decreased in next google pr update? The site is PR 3 now

athlon24
10-28-2008, 05:13 PM
PR's algorithm depends on how many are linking to you so possibly, John Chow's PR won't be affected, because we don't usually erase our previous given links. The thing is if he continues to be like that, his PR will not improve anymore. JohnChow.com is already in its 8 years, and it is only in PR3. I think it's slow.

akira07
10-29-2008, 03:12 PM
Pr3 and it's 8 year blog? yeah, i think it's slow also. Because in other thread (thread bout selling money making blog called blueverse) you said that blueverse reach PR5 in 2 years....

@athlon24
but reading about your opinion about johnchow, i think many people will remove their link to johnchow site, and decreasing of PR can be happen

ap4a
10-29-2008, 03:46 PM
PR is no indication of anything. For the last year or so PR has become like a little carrot that Google waves in front of the noses of people in order to manipulate the advertising market. If you don't do what they say on your own site then they take PR away. I've had PR removed, I know other people who have, and it isn't unlikely that the same could have happened to John Chow. Anyone who provides advertising is at risk of being penalised. By doing this Google can try to force competitors out of the market, giving them exclusive control.

athlon24
10-29-2008, 04:34 PM
The thing is even until now, there are still many who rely in PR to rate sites. This is true for most of advertisers, especially for paid to review. Unless someone will have a better gauge to know the importance and value of a site, Google will continue to do its agenda.

You've missed the point I've made. In between criticising how little PR an 8 year old site has you need to stop and consider the potential real reasons, and to also be aware that the exact same issues can affect your own sites.

John Chow had his site removed from Google a year or two ago due to selling text link ads on his site (or for some reason like that). He lost all PR.

Just because a site is at PR3 doesn't mean that's only PR3 after 8 years. I started with PR5, it's on PR4 now. My business site jumps between 4 and 5.

You won't find your PR steadily increases over time, it will go up, it will go down. It depends on how may back links you've got and the value of the PR of the pages those links are on. When the PR of one site drops, there's a knock on effect.

And my guess is John Chow really doesn't care what his PR is. He certainly didn't seem to care when his site was deindexed by Google. He already had a massive following and will continue to do so with people hanging on to his every word. He's made his fortunes and probably is now putting his feet up. I don't blame him, I'd do the same probably.

akira07

but as athlon24 said, johnchow dot com will decreased it popularity immediately.

@sarahG
yeah you right, maybe johnchow ever reach PR5 and now it's become PR3, and i believe that PR will decreased again if he still like this

I used to read John Chow, but stopped as after a while I was reading only for the contests and I didnt really gain much.

She has some great SEO tips.Other than that sometimes i browser through dailyblogtips, pureblogging and problogger.

Oops. My mistake (btw I am not alone (http://shegeeks.net/seo-tips-at-courtney-tuttlecom/)).
Anyway, I got the wrong idea as courtney can also be a female name (as in Courtney Cox from Friends).

courtneytuttle--> PR5
Haha and the new article is about topic which we discuss in other thread :"would-anyone-like-to-sell-their-site"

hmm, yeah the article in courtneytuttle is not heavy topic, but i like it..

As of now I have started hating JohnChow...He is one blogger who is recently is just going ga ga over his money made from his blog. He only posts nowdays about events, his friends, money made, his family, what food he eats and for a blogger like me...I am least interested in it. 1-1.5 years back he was good but now its all useless to read such stuff.

akira07
11-03-2008, 11:32 AM
he's didn't notice or no? about many people is starting to hate him?
well, the strange is, how can people like johnchow becoming like this? It's so strange..if he experienced in blog promoting/building, i think this will not happen

A lot of people are being turned off by John Chow. When his blog shot into fame (got dugg multiple times) he was writing quality articles - articles that took time and research to write.

BTW did anyone notice what's the new homepage title of John Chow's Blog:

I Make Money Online by Telling People How Much Money I Make Online - John Chow dot Com

That itself tells the shift in his strategy.....the blog only tells how much he earns. How he earns aspect has lost somewhere.

akira07
11-03-2008, 02:05 PM
that title is so funny, maybe he think by read him story, we can inspired and motivated to business online

11-03-2008, 04:16 PM
yeah, I thought I'm the only one that is turned off to John Chow. Just recently, I deleted his blog in my reader. It's a waste of time now. There are other blogs better than him now in MMO niche and one of this is its parody --> JohnCow.com --> definitely better, because of the humor side of it plus great tips. They even have their own plugin.

lol @ johncow. Those guys are great at link-baiting. I used to follow them..but then got a bit tired of them too.

athlon24
11-03-2008, 05:05 PM
haha. yeah, but their blog has more value now since it changed ownership and they are now gaining more and more subscriber. Their plugin is so valuable on comments that even has a potential to change your commentluv plugin.
