Inserting Adsense Deluxe and other items in right hand side panel

Hi

I'm not sure if this is the right area I should be posting the question - apologies if not.

I want to make use of the huge mass of empty space on the right (and left) hand side of my blog by adding Adsense, an optin form and some social network links like Digg etc but I am not sure how I do it.

I tried pasting my skyscraper adsense in the 'sidebar' of my theme but it messed up the code and didn't work (I used < > on either side instead of the brackets)
(?php adsense_deluxe_ads(!--adsense#728x90--); ?)
(?php endif; ?)

Was the sidebar the right place to put the script?

If not could somebody please tell me how I add items to the left and right hand side of my blog.

1. Insert the code for the adsense skyscraper in Adsense deluxe to generate an html comment like <!--Adsense-->

Go to your widgets and add a text widget in the sidebar, with the adsense deluxe code in it(<!--Adsense--> or whichever you chose).

Tell me if it works :)

Thanks very much. I had no idea what widgets were or where they were in WP.

Before you told me about them I was trying to insert the code in my php page. Doh!

I can get my Technorati tags etc. in there now.

Yeah you can use HTML/Javascript code with the text widgets, hence the Technorati tags, mybloglog widget and that kind of stuff.

I even manged to get my optin form there.
