Hi, I would just like to introduce myself here.
I am new to the blogging scene. I just opened my first Blogger account last week, actually. I would like to monetize my blog, and at the very least make an effort to acheive some level of success with it. I realize this isn't easy though, and that I might not do very well at it. As it stands right now, I am quite an amateur. But even if I am not successful, or if no one actually reads it, I figure just to make an attempt at blogging will be a fun endeavour and a great learning experience.
I've decided to base my blog on books and literature. The basic idea is that my posts will be reviews of books I've read or authors I recommend, etc. I would like to start more blogs as well if I can manage my time well enough to handle it. Just from joining and making my first post I realize that there is alot of work that must go into to creating and maintaining a decent blog. Even making a decent book review is tough. I realize now that most of the stuff I've read of late is not very recent. So my first two posts were on books which have been around a while.
I've thought about doing a music blog as well, and the more I think about, the more I see that this could be even more difficult. There so many genres to cover, so much research to be done to write good reviews, and to give artist info. Despite all of this, I am going to give it a try, because if nothing else, it seems like a wonderful hobby.
Anyways I look forward to posting here and reading posts. I am open to advice, suggestions and criticism. Private messages are always welcome.

Hi Greentea,
Welcome to the site.
I would blog about something you are passionate about. Do you have any hobbies or interests that you love discussing?
Also, I wouldn't think too much about making money with your blog just now. You should be concentrating more on content and building a readership.

Thanks for the advice Kevin and for the welcome. You are right. I've only been at this for a little less than a week, and I see that before thinking about making money I have quite alot of building to do. I am going to try to get a healthy amount of content on there before I start looking for any readership. That's why I haven't even posted a link here yet. And even when I get some content I might be pretty shy about letting anyone see it.
As for the monetizing, I am not actually counting upon having any success at that, I just figure it cannot hurt to try.
As for hobbies, I am into reading so the Book Blog is a natural choice for me. And of course everyone likes music. I've played guitar since I was about 8 years old, and I think because of that, music is pretty important to me. The thing is, however, I mainly listen to classical. I grew up listening to alot of classic rock, but nowadays I don't even know what's out there anymore. I started listening to classical about 7 years ago and it's pretty much all I've listened to for the last few years. It's a type of music I am quite passionate about, and that puts me in a smaller audience. So I figure if I work on a music blog as well, I'll try to narrow it down to that. I still enjoy other music, but I am really out of the loop. :)

sounds like you would enjoy writing a classical music related blog. You need to remember that there are other people out there who share your passion :)

I am also somewhat new to the blogging scene and I have not yet made a "theme" for my blog yet. That is why I am still not very active. At first I used livejournal so that I would have the option to post it for friends only or even private....but I am now exploring public blogging.

Hi Coldaumn. Nice to meet you.
I started off with the idea that I wanted to monetize my blog. So at first I was having some very specific ideas about what I wanted my blog to be. As I mentioned in my first post, I was started a book blog and a music blog. Posting on one theme allows you to advertise certain products which relate to that theme.
But I realize also how difficult it is as a beginner to do this. It's hard to just popularize a blog when you are aiming to make money. Kevin was right, I think. Though I don't think it hurts to try monetization, I think it it's important to have fun. I have actually opened several accounts. My book blog has about three posts in it, reviewing certain books. My music blog is opened but I have not made a single post yet. I opened these things without any experience or any strategy.
But over the last couple days I opened two new blogs. And I made them more loose and did not confine them to any strict theme or structure. This allows me to have some fun blogging. So I have all these blogs. I've joined like a million sites over the last week. :) I am filling a notebook up with usernames and passwords because there is no way I can remember all of this. But its fun. It's a bit disorganized right now, having all these blogs around. But I think this way I get a chance to work on all of them, to put my toes in the water a bit with each of them, and see what it is I enjoy. Maybe then I will get a better idea of what I want to do.
So, I am not qualified to give any blogging advice, being a beginner myself, but I can give you some encouragement. Keep at it and enjoy it, fellow blogger.

I would suggest writing blog on something that interest you so much that you keep on working on it even if you gain nothing from it.Most of the bloggers don't succeed because they set big goals and if they fail to achieve they get discouraged easily. Blogging is a long term affair.Give your blog at least 6 months of hard work and write useful unique content. Don't copy others work.
Yes....it was happen to me when i starting to make my blog. In my head, there are only money.....money....and money. Until i joined some publisher, and until now i just got a little of money. What wrong???
Until i read some site who told me that if you want earn more money from your site, you must get a lot of traffic.
Now, my vision was change. I think to make a lot of traffic for my site. When you get it, money will follow you.
Best Regard

Hey guys I just joined today. Im a veteran webmaster but I am definately not a pro blogger. I do know that without traffic your blog or website is useless and worth nothing to advertisers or anyone else. Content is king if you are trying to dominate any niche.
So what are some tips on self hosted wp seo? I am currently running an adsense theme and looking to fine tune it for seo. Its a new blog and I am running a handful of plugins like the all in one seo pack and google xml sitemaps. Any advice?

Just concentrate on one blog initially. When you will achieve success you will be motivated to work on more blogs.
