Hi,
Just a quick question here.. I want to add "display_twitter();" manually to my index.php file, but when I insert that, nothing is being displayed in my blog expect "display_twitter();".. (So no images (I've uploaded the twitter-user-1.png to the plugin's image directory..)
What am I doing wrong?!
Thanks in advance for your reply! :)

have you placed the function within PHP tags? If the actual text is displaying then my guess is you haven't. Make sure it's either already within PHP tags or you surround it with PHP tags
<?php display_twitter(); ?>
If that doesn't fix it let us know where your site is so we can see it in action (or not)

Thanks for the great plugin Sarah! I added it on my blog. I had to add a couple lines to my CSS to remove the border around the image but other than that it's working great!

Cheers for the feedback Julie. We can add the note about image borders into the plugin page :)

I find it very hard to upload new templates and plugins into wordpress, is there a place where I am not looking???
George, you FTP them into the wp-content/plugins folder. Then go to the plugins section of your wordpress admin and activate them there.

How do you FTP them???

George, do you have your own standalone version of WordPress running? If so then you most likely FTP'd the main files to your hosting space. If you installed it directly from something such as Fantastico then you'll need to use FTP to add plugins and themes.
To FTP you connect to your site, then navigate to the directory containing WordPress, if it's not in the root. Open up wp-content (if you've not renamed it), plugins, and then place the directory containing the plugin file into the plugins directory on your server. Then in the admin you go to Plugins and activate the plugin and follow the instructions in the readme.txt file from there.

I use Wordpress.com and there is nothing called "FTP"

If you use WordPress.com then you cannot add your own additional plugins. Plugins are for the standalone version of WordPress which you download from WordPress.org and host on your own server.
FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol and is the system/method used to transfer the files from your computer to your hosted space.

Great Idea.
Maybe a j component so people can input their question or copy across their support tickets and auto posted to a central repository. You could get user/devs/etc to vote up or down how popular that question is and that could be a basis for working on answers. Hmm thats a bit like what uservoice does I suppose.
It has promise, particularly if all the content was shared back out with everyone as a helpdesk app.

MH Vishal, what post are you replying to because it makes no sense to the thread.

I thought I'd add a link to the page about it: http://www.bloggingtips.com/wordpress-plugins/twitter-user/
I can't wait to try it! Thanks! *SmiLes* Suzanne
Does this only show up on new posts you create after you've installed the plugin? I don't see it on my last post ... so I did a test post and it's there.
Actually ... it's only doing that on one site (my suzannefranco.com site) and it worked great on the wedding one (thedestinationweddingsite.com) so I'm wondering if it's the theme ... or even the version of WP I'm using. I haven't updated suzannefranco to the newest wp because I'm not sure what changes they made on the theme they did for me *sigh* Guess I need to email them and find out what I need to do to upgrade.
Looks great on my site! Thanks! *SmiLes* Suzanne

Hi Suzanne,
It should show up on all posts, regardless of when the plugin was added. You just need to make sure the author as updated their profile with their twitter username because otherwise, it won't show.

As Kevin said, you need to ensure the author has a twitter username set in their profile else it won't run (as it'd be an empty link). You also need to check that you've set your options to attach the twitter details to the bottom of the post or make sure you've added the function to the theme.
It's not dependent on the theme and whilst the admin is designed for WP 2.7, it should all still work in earlier versions.
As for upgrading your WP, most themes work on 2.7, as WordPress hasn't removed features, just added new ones, so you should be safe to upgrade, however I would take a backup first as always.

I've double checked everything and I believe I've done it correctly. I even added to my son's blog this morning and his is working too. I have "Tweet This" plugin so I deactivated it ... but that didn't do it either.
I really want to upgrade to 2.7 ... what do I backup? Do I take all of the files on my server for that site and save to a folder on my desktop? Thanks!

Take a copy of all the files on the server and a backup of the database. You can get the WP DB Backup plugin to do this for you if you're not confident doing it manually.
If none of that works, feel free to create a temporary account for me with admin status and PM it to me, I'll go in and check the settings to see why things are not working :)
On a further look, it's quite strange how it appears on one post and not the other. I don't think an upgrade will change anything (although I do still highly recommend upgrading). Drop me a login if you want and I'll see what's going on 'under the hood'

It's very strange! Let me know if anything changes when you create a new post. If that doesn't have the icon but the current recent post, which currently doesn't have it, suddenly does, then it's something somewhere affecting the most recent post.
Or, to ensure it's not your theme options/functions file, try swapping themes to the classic or default (for just a few seconds), see if the icon appears, if it does then let me know and I'll have a better look at your functions file.
Otherwise, I'm stumped!
