There are many reasons why you might need a content writing service. Ranging from linking building methods, content creation for web sites, or bringing new writers to provide more content for your own blog. No matter what your use is for new original content, there are a lot of solutions out there, but they are all not the same in quality. I’ve personally tested and used a ton of content writing services over the years, so I wanted to make a nice summary of the different ones out there and what you can expect from each.
Blogging.org
Blogging.org is by far the best writing service out there to get quality content for your website. http://blogging.org has taken the market by storm. They also have a guest posting section where you can contact and find the best writers out there. You can find that here.
You pay based on size of article. Prices start at $1.50 and go all the way up to $150 for a larger article by a premium author.
- Silver: All writers will see your request. ($3)
- Gold: 3 to 5 star writers will see your request. ($5)
- Platinum: 4 to 5 star writers will see your request. ($7)
- Premium: Only Credentialed Authors will see your request. ($15)

TextBroker
TextBroker is another writing service where you put content writing jobs together and writers from the site will complete original articles for you that you can later approve. With thousands of writers and quite the advanced user area, TextBroker is well above the competition when it comes to outsourcing content and managing your writers.
Instead of a flat fee per article, you are paying based on word count and the quality of the writer.
- 2 Stars, Legible – 0.012 USD per Word
- 3 Stars, Average – 0.016 USD per Word (Convenient for large volume orders)
- 4 Stars, Excellent – 0.022 USD per Word (Recommended for time-sensitive orders)
- 5 Stars, Professional – 0.067 USD per Word
Another great feature of TextBroker, is that you can order a content article to be written by a 3 star writer, but if a 4 or 5 star writer decides to write the post, you get a higher quality article, but at the rate of a 3 star writer. This all depends on what writers are currently taking open writing jobs on their site.
Final thoughts on TextBroker…
Of all the writing sites, TextBroker has one of the best setups and has been providing great quality articles for many clients on the site. For anyone who is looking to build a team of writers, or bring in a constant flow of new articles, they already have areas and features in place to set this up. While the “excellent” and “professional” rates of writers may get expensive, the “average” writer will provide quality articles that are more than efficient for most sites and purposes.

iWriter
In terms of setup and structure, I really like the iWriter web site and how it works. When you sign up for a free account on their site, you will be able to pay people to write articles for your, or you can start writing articles for other people and get paid (or do both). Content writing on iWriter is nice because it’s easy to add funds, create new jobs and review/rate your articles.
There are three different levels for writers on iWriter, which are Standard, Premium and Elite. The better the writer, the more it will cost for an article to be written. Below you will see the breakdown of quality expected by the writer based on their rating, along with the minimum rate it would cost for a 500 word article to be created.
- Basic: All writers will see your request. ($3)
- Premium: 4 to 5 star writers will see your request. ($5)
- Elite: 4.6 to 5 star writers will see your request. ($10)
Articles can be written in the following word amounts: 150, 300, 500, 700, 1000. You will also get to review the article before accepting and paying for it’s completion. The last step in the writing process is to provide a rating and review for the writer.
Final thoughts on iWriter…
iWriter is a great service, but there are plenty of authors on the site who provide low quality articles and attempt to “spin” articles and resubmit them to you as completed articles. This can be avoided by ordering content from only quality writers (Premium or Elite), and reviewing all articles before accepting them and sending payment.

Fiverr
The largest of the micro jobs web sites, Fiverr has thousands of jobs on their sites for $5 and up. Among the most requested writing jobs on Fiverr, you will see a lot of proofreading, article writing, blog posting and content spinning. Most jobs on Fiverr will provide you with unique 400-500 articles for $5 on various topics, and some may even include posting the original content to their blogs with a backlink if requested. The best way to get a feel for what’s on Fiverr, is to actually search through their site and see how many people are offering the writing services you are looking for. With so many different jobs on Fiverr, it’s not the easiest site to work with for article writing, but it does offer the widest variations in what writers can do for you.
Final thoughts on Fiverr…
As mentioned, “spinning” is one of the most sought after jobs on Fiverr, and if you are looking for completely original content, you are going to want to be careful who you are purchasing content from. To keep your content quality at it’s highest, visit the “writing” category on Fiverr, then sort by “Popularity” and “Rating”. View the user feedback and this will help eliminate any low quality writers. There are plenty of great writers and services on Fiverr, it’s just a matter of weeding through the listings and finding the ones that good for long term writing jobs.

Virtual Assistant
Hiring a virtual assistant can be a great idea if you have a lot of content writing, or you want to bring someone in for long term writing. Depending on how you research and hire a virtual assistant, you can have a lot of headaches and frustrations… or you can eliminate these factors by paying a bit more for your virtual assistant by hiring through an agency.
A quality virtual assistant that specializes in writing, will usually cost you around $1,000+ a month. The higher quality writer, the higher this price may go. While this may seem like a high cost, you have to realize you are paying for them as a full time employee, as they are working only for you.
Two well known services out there for hiring virtual assistants are VirtualHires.com and TeamLauncher.com.
Final thoughts on Virtual Assistants…
Virtual Assistants can be an excellent move if you are looking to really produce a lot of original content that is high in quality. One of the problems I had with my virtual assistant I had a few years back, was that I simply didn’t have enough work for them to complete. If you don’t have a constant flow of new work for your virtual hire, then you are just wasting money. Until you need a full time writer, it may be a better idea to stick with outsourcing article writing a few at a time. Once you volume picks up, talks to one of the recommended agencies above about how much content can be created daily, and the cost compared to what you are spending elsewhere.

oDesk / Elance
Two of the most popular job sites out there are oDesk and Elance. The volume and amount of jobs created through these sites are amazing, and with the amount of jobs and features, comes more complications, headaches and management. I’ve used these services in the past, but for content writing I’m happier with the actual job sites that are focused purely on writing. With the proper research and time, you will be able to find quality writers from all around the world on oDesk and Elance, and their rates will heavily vary (hourly or project based). You will be able to create a job listing on their site, and you will start to receive applicants from all over the place. You can then select who you would like to hire, and manage/communicate through the oDesk or Elance platform.
Compared to the other job sites out there, these two will have the most references, variations in writing, portfolios of past jobs and user/client feedback.
Final thoughts on Virtual Assistants…
If you are looking for quick articles to be written, I would stick with content writing sites like iWriter and TextBroker. If you are looking for long term writing, bigger jobs and more than just 500 word articles, oDesk and Elance may be right up your ally. You will come across many writers who are perfect and well educated, but their rates will back this up. Instead of going full time with a virtual writer, hiring a part time writer through either of these job sites is a great idea.
