The idea is simple, take a look at the top 25 – 50 keywords sending traffic to your blog, try to look for common variations of keywords relevant to your blog, try to see if you’re not yet ranking #1 for those keywords and work on getting to #1. We rank around page 2 – 5 for most of those long-tail keywords that send us trickles of visitors every day, now imagine how much more traffic you will be able to get if you are able to be ranked #1 for that keyword on page 1. Of course, it will take some efforts but you will find it much easier to rank compared to if you were to start optimizing from scratch, simply because you’re already ranking for that keyword and only need to improve your rankings.

The good thing about this is that you can do it over and over again and there will always be new keywords to rank for; the great thing is that it takes little to no effort to rank and the traffic is completely relevant to you, and over time you will find yourself automatically ranking for most of the keyword variations.

In other words, no need to write new content, no need to do any keyword research, just look for those keywords and take necessary steps to start ranking.

You Need BACKLINKS, though

Even though the process is still relatively easy you still need backlinks so you should do your best to get as much of them as you can. My favorite approach for gaining backlinks at the moment is guest blogging, simply because it helps you gain authoritative backlinks while still giving you control over the links you’re able to gain. This particular approach has double benefits.

A lot of bloggers are so deep into the thought of building backlinks that they have forgotten that linking to other websites can also be as effective. Your links could be to blogs, it could be to research data or surveys and it could be to videos that educate on a subject. Linking out to content from other bloggers will increase your perceived authority in the eyes of the search engines and that of your readers, and you will also end up getting quality links from other blogs in the process.

If you focus on keywords while writing an article, you might end up creating a junk piece of content. So, it’s better to write naturally then just focusing on the keywords, because whatever we write on the web page will be read by the users not some bots from the search engines.

Meta Tags:

The usage of Meta Tags has been discussed many times over the web and the opinions were different. Well, from my point of view Meta tags were not important to SEO, as they were once before.  In simple words, usage of Meta tags won’t have any effects on your rankings. But if you want to use it, just go ahead but make sure you just don’t use the keyword stuffing black hat technique in it.

Nofollow Links:

If you think that Nofollow links doesn’t matter, then you are wrong. Google does count Nofollow links and if Google find a website has only Dofollow links and Nofollow links in their link profile, then it will get suspicious about the website and sometimes it will result in the loss of rankings. Well in simple words, Google prefers a good ratio of Dofollow and Nofollow links.

This may be contrary to what many people believe, but it’s a true fact. Having Nofollow links in your website link profile will certainly boost your overall search engines rankings, although you can’t rank for a certain keyword phrase.

New in Rank Tracker

As you may recall, SEO PowerSuite is comprised of four sub-programs. Rank Tracker, as its name implies, is a rank checker that you can use to see where your website ranks in various search engines for different target keywords.

The main report for this has been reworked to be a little easier on the eyes, as you can see above. It displays the search engine you are targeting, as well as the keywords, your current rank, the change in your rank, and the destination URL with that rank. You also get an “at a glance” look at your overall visibility. For even more information, specifically when it comes to historical progress, you can look toward the main Rank Tracker workspace, but the generated report is a lot easier to follow and understand.

New in SEO SpyGlass

Another utility in SEO PowerSuite is SEO SpyGlass, a backlink checker. The main report here has also been revamped for ease of use.

The inclusion of simple pie-graphs makes the data a lot easier to digest, making it really easy for you to compare dofollow and nofollow links, for instance, as well as the ratio between text and image links. The breakdown with the types of TLDs can be very useful too, as most SEO specialists will remind you of the value of .edu and .gov backlinks, for example.

New in WebSite Auditor

Better Reports for Better SEO

While I’ve been used to writing guest posts for big blogs with the intention of seeing huge spike in traffic and subscribers to my blog, I decided to take things to the next level and write a lot of guest posts for smaller blogs with the hope of benefiting in the future. In other words, I knew I might not get up to 5 visitors for every single blog I wrote for, but my intention was to use the guest post to drive me hundreds of daily visitors for years to come.

How I Went About It

We all know that search engines can be a great source of traffic to a website, and that quality links can make a whole lot of difference in how a website is ranked.

My approach was to focus on using my guest posts to build quality links, instead of expecting some huge traffic spikes from big blogs that will end up dying down soon.

As a result, I wrote and submitted 31 guest posts in one week. Many of which were published a few days after. I studied the results for a few days, and there wasn’t any significant increase in traffic yet. Approximately two weeks after, I started noticing significant increase in the number of my daily traffic from the search engines, and even though it is approximately a month of me starting the challenge, I have already started to see an increase of around 200 visitors a day as far as search traffic to my blog is concerned.

I will be sharing with you some search engine traffic screenshots from my blog to show you what I mean, and I will be explaining how I go about it afterwards.

Quick Note: I started the challenge on the 9th of October 2011 and this post is published here on the 9th of November 2011.

The above is the screenshot representing the search traffic to my blog 30 days before I started the guest blogging challenge. During the period in the above screenshot, I used to average 350 visitors a day from the search engines, and I also have days where I only get around 250 visitors.

The above screenshot shows search traffic to my blog exactly 30 days after submitting the guest posts I wrote after the challenge. The effect of the traffic wasn’t significant at first, but after around two weeks I started noticing significant changes in my traffic, and I started getting over 420 visitors on low traffic days. In fact, there are now days that I get as much as 560 visitors from the search engines alone.

It is only one month since the challenge, so I guess it is too early to conclude. I’m pretty sure traffic will keep on increasing from here, even if I don’t lift a finger.

What this challenge made obvious is that guest blogging can be very effective as a form of link building, and that if properly used, you will be able to see the effect of the guest posts you write today for years to come.

How to Use Guest Blogging to Improve Your Search Traffic

1. Focus on Making Your Blog Great. By this, I mean you need to work on your design and make sure it is search engine friendly. You also need to ensure your articles are targeting the right keywords – while changes like these might look insignificant, I can assure you that they will be of great impact to the results you get.

2. Target the right blogs for your guest post. Publishing your guest posts on just any blog won’t help, but targeting blogs respected and trusted by the search engines will make a difference. If possible, make sure every blog you target has a good Pagerank and Alexa rank. You should also make sure the blogs you guest post on are related to your niche, and if you can’t find related blogs you should look for a way to bridge the topic the blog covers to the topic you cover on your blog. For example, if I’m submitting a guest post to promote my “blogging” blog to a health blog, I can use the title “The Health Dangers to being a Blogger”. You will notice that a post with that title caters to both my audience and the audience of the blogger I’m submitting an article to, and if the article is well-written it will surely be published.

3. Use Keyword Variations. Using the same keywords makes your link building look unnatural, but by using keyword variations you will be able to increase your chances of getting even better results.

I’m a so called country boy who lives down here in the south, and when I say south I’m talking about Louisiana. The place where you can cook a egg on the side walk in the middle of the summer. It get’s so hot down here that most people look for night jobs just to not go out in the heat during the day.

This is what I call the south and one of the things we have more then any part of the country is what I call crazy put together words. These are words that make you scratch your head and say..what did you just say? One of these crazy words is when some say that your “beating a dead horse”. Now before you guys get on the phone and start calling Peta telling them that Louisiana is beating dead horses you should just hear me out for a sec.

This little southern phrase mostly states that your doing something for no reason at all and not going to get any results out of it. This basically means whatever your doing is a waste of time so you may want to stop it and start on a  new avenue.

Where’s Your Time Going?

One of the things you have to think about is where am I spending most of my time online? Is it social media, my blog or just reading other peoples blogs. Now if I was paying lets saying $1 per click through Google Adwords or something, then I will have paid a good $1500 and just hoped that I broke even to cover my income. But here is the sad thing about it, is that I wasn’t even selling anything on the page so I made no money. Now that’s funny because sometimes in seo you do things not to make money but to only get traffic.

It comes a time in life that you must choose the right road or at least the one that’s less traveled. Everyone’s doing Google Adwords because it’s easy and all you have to do is load your account filled of money and let loose. This is great and a wonderful marketing thing, but one day your money will get low and you will have to find another alternative because I have seen this happen thousands of times to people through my marketing career.
