Search engines are by far the most exciting traffic source for every online business. The simple reason is that traffic from search engines converts more because natural visitors visit your website based on a search expression. That means they asked Google something and Google thought your site is the right place to get the sought information.
But how to get more and more visitors from search engines has always remained a hard nut to crack for us online entrepreneurs. That doesn’t mean it’s impossible to rank high and get traffic from these search engines. In this post, I want to share with you a little thing I did that doubled my traffic, more precisely from Google.
My blog EnstineMuki.com is doing pretty well, with respect to the amount of effort I put in. But in recent times, there was a remarkable increase in natural traffic.
This has been accompanied by an increase in its income through sponsored post, Affiliate Marketing and some Google Adsense clicks. Though Google Adsense is not my major source of income, I was excited to see its earnings going up to over $2 a day as a result of this increase in traffic.
I used this same method recently, in less than 72 hours to kick this blog post on HostGator 60% discount from Google page #3 to the first spot of page #2 and of course, as I write this post, I already got a sale with $50 commission.
In less than 45 seconds after the post was published, it was indexed by Google and ranking on page #3 for the targeted keyword.

An important point to note!
Most of us doing business online spend a huge portion of valuable time running behind our competitors, spying them and trying to better up what they do.
For the most part, this leads to frustration and abandonment because we are hardly able to beat them. We put in resources to create valuable content that is doing fairly good in search engines. What we lack is the brain to think and show this “fairly good” content some more love.
The truth is, a little more time and tweaking of current content can bring a remarkable difference. That’s just what we are about to see in this post.
Here is what happened to my blog when I did this little SEO thing I’m about to discuss:
Now, you notice how natural traffic quickly and steadily grew and doubled its number. What is the free tool and what did I do?
Google Search Console
Formerly known as Google Webmaster Tools, this is one of the most wonderful free tools Google has ever given its users. This tool has so much to offer us webmasters and bloggers to improve our properties but in this post, we want to focus on one aspect that can change our ranking story.
[thrive_text_block color=”light” headline=”Please note!”]If you don’t have a GWT account yet, you’ll have to create it. In order to see its magic in what I discuss here, you need to add your blog or website to it. [/thrive_text_block]
How is this tool going to help us?
- It shows us which keywords generates impressions for which articles.
- It also shows us which keywords generates clicks for which articles.
Here is how to get the keyword list.
While on your blog in your Search console account, click Search Traffic and Search Analytics. Make sure the Clicks and Impressions boxes are checked
This will now take us to a list of keywords and some more stats.
At this point, we want to be able to see the keywords and articles that get more impressions and less clicks. On our keyword table, click the Impressions header. This will reverse the default order and show us the keywords that get more impressions.
Now, this is important! We will be looking for the keywords that generate more impressions with less clicks. This will tell us our articles are ranking but not getting clicks. There are generally two reasons for this scenario:
- The articles are ranking but NOT on page #1
- The articles are on page #1 but with poor CTA (Title and description)
In case 1, we will have more work to do to bring the articles to page #1. While in case 2, we simply will try to rephrase the titles and make the descriptions more attractive.
What was my discovery that doubled my SEO Traffic?
While digging through my search stats, I discovered one of my articles ranking for a longtail keyword I didn’t optimize the article for.
I found out people were actually search for something and this article was coming up on Google page #1, getting much more impressions and very few clicks. The reason is that the article was not targeted at solving the problem of those searchers.
I had 2 options
- Re-write the article to target those visitors
- Write a completely new article and optimized for that keyword
I decided to go in for option 2. That simply is because I could do my research and come up with more materials to rank the new article better. That’s exactly what I did and the result was amazing.
So what do you do now?
Stop running after your competitors for a moment. Go find out what’s already working for you, rinse and repeat for better results.
Login to your GWT account and carefully study your list of keywords. Pick out keywords that are already working for you. Tweak your articles for those keywords and rank better.
For some keywords, you may want to create completely new content. Which ever way you go (create new content or tweak existing content), you should be sure to have better ranking results
Tweaking old posts for better ranking!
One of the things I love doing is tweaking old post for better ranking and my Google Console account plays a big part in this. Once I find a keyword with pretty less competition and some impressions, I try to do some OnPage Optimization.
For the most part, I don’t do any backlinkings. A little OnPage SEO tweaks has always brought significant results. I use SEOPressor to automatically generate LSI keyword and I think that’s one reason the articles end up doing pretty well.
You don’t have to be an SEO geek to rank well and get natural traffic. Just practice this tip and I’m sure you’ll get some amazing resulst.
