If you’re considering on starting a blog, then one of your top priorities should be choosing where to set it up. Online, you’ll find a list of Top Blogging Platforms on the Internet blogging platforms where you can begin crating your blog, but it’s not as simple as it may sound.

Each of these blogging platforms has special benefits. So, depending on your goals and your needs, you should explore the “ins and outs” of these blogging platforms and what it can do for you in the “blogosphere.”

Blogger – This is one of the oldest and still one of the most popular blogging platforms in the blogging world. It’s from Google so you can use Google’s tools such as Google Analytics to keep tabs on what’s happening on your blog. Blogger is very easy to set up and manage. The simple and uncomplicated design is what makes it one of the popular blogging platforms of choice among newbies.

Among the blogging platforms, Blogger is great for sharing events, pictures, recipes, and travel experiences with family and friends. Because of its simple design it’s not suited to be used for a professional blog or even for business. Even if it offers a lot of template designs to choose from, the designs themselves will look amateurish in the business world.

WordPress.com and WordPress.org – It’s so easy to get confused with these blogging platforms because it’s so easy to think they’re one and the same, especially if you’re just starting out.

i)        WordPress.com is one of those simple blogging platforms that you can use for free. It’s also a great starting point for new comers. Those who are more serious about blogging use WordPress because of its attractive theme designs, customizable themes, and with more widgets or plugins. WordPress can also be easily integrated with Google Analytics to monitor your blog’s activity.

ii)      WordPress.org – among the list of blogging platforms, WordPress.org provides you with the opportunity to pull old blogs together. You can even integrate an existing business into it. You’ll have more flexibility with WordPress.org and more benefits too, but all of these come with a fee. Depending on your needs, you’ll need to pay somewhere around $40-$100 for hosting and domain.

SquareSpace – is one of those blogging platforms that can only be used if you’re willing to pay its price. This is a premium-only blogging platform, meaning you need to pay a monthly fee in order to avail of its components. Not all blogging platforms are able to give you benefits such as:

i)        24/7 support,

ii)      Galleries

iii)    Apps for ipad, iphone, and android

iv)    Pages

v)      Blogs

vi)    Can be linked to Tumblr, Facebook, Twitter, and Google plus

TypePad is included in the list of top blogging platforms mainly for its flexibility and strong analytics.  It is able to promote your blog to its network meaning more traffic for your site.

TypePad is also one of the blogging platforms that are not available for free. Their monthly fees range from $8.95 to $29.95. One of its benefits is that it’s very easy to sell products on Typepad, and if you join their affiliate program you can even get more revenue.

You should have included Tumblr too. I recently launched a full new website using Tumblr. And the best part is that I find it better than Blogger but not as Good as WordPress though!

    Hello John,
First of all thanks for the list, till now i was thinking that all blogging platform is for free, and today i came to know about SquareSpace. that also we have paid blogs.

But john is it worth to pay a rent for your blog, i opt for own domain and hosting and retain the ownership.

I’ve used all these platforms with the exception of SquareSpace, and my number one choice has got to be WordPress(.org). If you’re looking to blog for money, you should always have your website on its own domain, and there’s no better CMS in my opinion than WordPress. WordPress is fast, secure, and easy, which makes it the perfect platform in my opinion.

I think Google properties have an added advantage when it comes to search traffic. So i guess blogger will have more weightage when it comes to blogging platforms.
