Screen Shot 2013-08-05 at 10.09.21 AMThe domain name for your website is going to be the first thing that your visitors see. Whether they are typing it into their address bar or they are choosing it from a search engine, they are going to see it before they see the actual website. This means that it needs to be good. It cannot be just anything, especially when you consider how a poor choice can affect traffic. You want to make sure that more and more people are choosing you over the competition. You want your name to be something that is memorable and gives information. With a little creativity and thinking, you can find something incredible.

What To Name Your Domain

For the most part, a good domain name is something that is short, memorable, and gives people information about you. It needs to be unique to your business and / or site and it needs to be something that people will remember. You also want it to be short and simple. When people see your address, they should be attracted to it in some way. They should be able to remember it long after they have already seen it. Try to use your business name or specific information about your website’s content. Make sure that it is appealing and straightforward, and that it cannot be confused with anything else.

Register Your Domain

Once you have something figured out, you are going to need to know how to get a domain name. Registering for one is not difficult, but you should first look into the name’s availability. There are plenty of tools available to help you do this, and they are incredible effective. They are going to search for the domain that you want and seek out available alternatives if it is taken. This will help you to have what you want and it will give you the chance to see availability as quickly as possible.

The best place to register domain names is out there. You just have to know what you are after if you plan to look into this. You will be able to find various places that offer domain names at affordable prices so look into what is out there. Whether you want a .com or a .net, or anything else possible, you should know what you are after and you should have a budget in mind. While they are not going to be the most expensive part of the website, you are still going to want to save as much as possible with this.

Choosing A Great Domain

Having a good domain name is very possible. You just need to make sure that it suits you and that it is something that will appeal to people. It should be memorable and simple, all while giving possible visitors an idea of you. This will help to bring in as many people as possible. After having it figured out, finding the best place to register domain is the next step. You should look into what you need and what is available then compare before you buy.

when ever i buy a new domain, it is my usual practice to see what are the keywords that are ranking for that particular category, and if its even possible to take domain names that are close to the niche..

Sometimes i really do have to wait as the domain names are not easily available, even sometimes i do have to concentrate on new ideas for even days..

    Hi Raghav,

Using the right domain name is very important and can make all the difference when it comes to Internet marketing.

    Thanks for your feedback.

Well choosing a good domain name is very difficult. Before google’s EMD update every people were thinking that that name should be on your targeted keywords but after Google’s EMD update there is not require to pick a domain name with targeted keywords.

We should choose a very short name which can be easily to remember.

    Hi John,

I do agree, choosing a domain can be very difficult to find. Anything that is really long there are a lot of chances for typos, which means you could potentially lose visitors. Depending on your industry or niche these short domains are becoming harder to come by but I still manage to pick-up a good domain name here and there.

A couple of other things to note within what makes a good domain name is that if it is a worldwide service you would tend to want a .com as Google take more interest in that extension for something worldwide. Then if you want it as just a local domain then either your local domain extension or the .com is important. I would personally steer away from .info’s or .me’s as they can be hard to remember. Catchy domains are key.

    Hi Martin,

Thanks for the feedback! I do agree, a catchy name is the best domain. I always stick with domains ending in com because it’s what majority uses. When people end up getting info or net they tend to loose a lot of traffic.

First and foremost a great domain is available! With everyone snatching up cheap domains, it can be extremely hard to find a quality domain.

Ideally, your domain name should be your blogging name/brand. After that it’s coming up with a good name. Every good domain name is 4 things:

However, it’s hard to find domain names available with these attributes so plan on a lot of research and thought!

Naming is the tricky part because there will be 2 options. One to name it relating to the product and other is to go for a name that stands out.Either way the material in the site is going to decide the future course of events. My personal choice will be to go for a short and attractive domain name.

I got and ideal domain name for blogging tips and tricks but i was little bit surprised why wasn’t this domain registered.

    Nancy Badillo August 13, 2013

    Hi Himanshu,

I am surprised its not taking either. It might not be taking due to the length of the domain. I might end up taking it for me!

    Hi Himanshu,

I am surprised its not taking either. It might not be taking due to the length of the domain. I might end up taking it for me! The monthly searches for blogging tip and tricks is very low that might be another reason why.
