Email marketing has been tough ever since it started. We, internet marketers, work so hard to get hold of that elusive name and email id of a prospective customer but do we realize that one wrong move on our part can cause them to unsubscribe from our list?
This wrong move on our part happens with our email marketing strategy when we send poorly written emails that provide no ounce of information to the receiver. There have been uncountable times when I have opened someone’s email and smirked at its content. Such kind of email marketing gimmicks does not give returns in the long run. Such kinds of emails are more focused on getting the reader to buy a product, not inundating first the reason why the reader should buy that product. Needless to say, these half-baked emails do not pique the interest of a genuine buyer at all.
Important Tip: For your email marketing to be a success you have to look out for the best interest of the buyer, and not your best interest because when a reader buys something from your email letter, your interests are being taken care of indirectly. Getting my point?
Be Educative…not Preachy
You don’t have to ‘preach’ the buyer but maintain an educative stance, which can be reflected in your email through the content you write.
When you send out a product recommendation in the email, make sure to give content that enhances the product. For enhancement, you could use current news, articles, discount offers, reviews, presentations, product FAQ’s, training manuals as part of the package.
For example, if I am sending an email about product ‘ABC’, I will highlight its reviews, how they are often being used by a target market (including the reader), and its testimonials, embed any kind of media coverage and then attach its product manual.
I know that this kind of content development needs a lot of work and there is an uncertainty of not receiving any responses, but one must never fail to try. A well written comprehensive email is much better than “hey, I am using this product, you should use it too” email marketing gimmicks.
Honesty Is the Best Policy
The reason why email marketing is so popular and an effective way to make money online is because a hard earned email list is like having a selected insider group of people who are entrusting you to look out for them by catering to their product or service demand.
If this is the case, then it is commonsensical to take care of this list and not misuse it just for the sake of earning few dollars in commissions.
My point is you should never recommend a product you don’t have faith in. If you are not using the product or service yourself, chances are that the email list subscriber won’t do also. Hence, honesty is necessary in email marketing.
Endnote
Email marketing is necessary for online success. Once you have built an email list, the next recurring step is to try and preserve this list.
