Being a community manager is a 24/7 job. As the representative of your brand in the social space, you have a huge responsibility to be available and responsive. The problem is, no human being is sitting in front of their laptop hitting the refresh button all day and night. Luckily, there are tons of resources that can help you manage your brand’s communities while on the go. All I can say is, thank goodness for smart phones! Here are three great mobile tips that will help you manage your communities while away from your computer.
1. Flipboard
There is an app called Flipboard that creates a personalized magazine using everything being shared with you. Content is taken from your Facebook newsfeed, your Twitter timeline, your Instagram friends, and more. Use this app to curate content even when you can’t surf the net.
2. Google Mobile
If you are a community manager, you are likely very dependent on your Google docs! It is a little known fact that you can actually access your Google docs and spreadsheets from your mobile phone. Google Mobile gives you the full functionality of Google Apps even when you are not in front of a computer.
3. Facebook Pages Manager
Facebook has made multiple apps that makes using Facebook on your mobile device easier. Besides the default Facebook app, you could also download Facebook messenger for easy chatting, and now Facebook Page Manager for easy community management. Having full admin functionality on your phone will make a community manager’s job 10 times easier. You can monitor and respond while you are out and possibly even take more vacation days!
Like everything with social media marketing, the demand of managing a community 24/7 doesn’t sound as scary when you have the right tools to help you. Start implementing these tips now and see how easy it can be to listen, engage, and respond with only your smart phone!

By community do you mean a world wide workforce in the same organization? To be honest this opens up a great debate, the internet is worldwide but business never was 24/7, I think sometimes it’s worth letting your fans and clients know where you are in the world so they can understand that you are not available 24 hrs of the day unless you really are a global community then you would or should invest in having people on a shift. I am not saying that you cannot or should not check, I do when I am at home on the lap top and ocassionally the mobile. But when I am off and it’s my down time, I need that.
Maybe I am old fashioned lol
