Several Ways to Optimize Twitter

Posted by on 3rd Jun 2012 | 3 comments

You need to take advantage of all that social media can do for you if you want to make a go of your business on the Internet and that means Twitter. Thinking outside the box is the way to go when you’re mulling over ways to get social media working for you and here’s a few different ways to make the most of Twitter.

  1. Don’t make it the central focus of your internet advertising plans. Now while that might sound silly when you consider all the attention that social media gets, it really isn’t. By pointing your Tweets back to your website, you’ll be using this tool the way you’re supposed to. Take the time to put all the really good info on your website and use Twitter to get people to visit there and the one two punch will work out better than if you use Twitter as more than just a tentacle leading to your site.
  2. Communicate. Remember the audience that you’re really looking for are paying clients, but you can’t hard sell your way to success on Twitter.  Make sure your focus is about interrelating and communicating. The more people see you as a friendly expert in your field, the more they are likely to follow the links to your website and hopefully convert from visitor to paying customer.
  3. Watch those links. Yes, it’s all about linking to some extent, but keep in mind you’ll need to balance quality with quantity. Take the time to make sure the places you’re linking to are credible and your reputation will increase in a positive way.

There are other things you need to be aware of as well. Remember that anything that you write on Twitter is an extension of your business and who you are by proxy. Even though there are only 140 characters allowed on a Tweet, you need to make sure they sound professional if you plan on gaining a reputation as a trusted professional who knows what they’re talking about. If you’re not that good at writing, hire the job out.

Remember to show some class when you’re dealing with Twitter as well and here that means you should deal with customer issues that come to you through this social media privately. It’s best to use the direct message option here so that you’re not airing any dirty laundry in public.
