Have you been trying to decide if you should make the switch to WordPress? The Infographic below is a flow chart that could help you make that decision. Let us take a brief overview of the infographic.
The first question that you should ask yourself is, “is this a new website or blog?”
If the answer is yes then you should start with Self-hosted WordPress.
If the answer is no then move onto the next question.
The next question on the flow chart is “do you currently have good traffic coming to your site?”
If the answer to this question is yes then you may want to consult and expert about the risk, which could include:
1. Loss of SEO
2. Broken inbound links
3. Loss of traffic
If the answer is no then this moves us to the next question,
The next question is, “do you have a lot of pages or posts on your current site?”
If the answer is yes, you may want to move to WordPress by using their user-friendly import tool. You will have to check if your site is one that can be imported using this too.
If the answer to the question is no then move onto the next question.
The next question is, “have you invested a lot in the design of your website?”
If the answer is no then you should make the move to WordPress. You can manually move your site to WordPress if it cannot be imported automatically.
If the answer is yes this will take us to the next question on the chart.
The next question is, “are you on another content management system?”
If the answer is yes you have reached a “decision point,” if your current CMS offers you the flexibility that you need and you are happy with your design you may want to consider staying where you are.
If the answer is no then you should consider moving. Consider moving to WordPress, you will lose your design but you will have more flexibility and many other benefits that are provided by WordPress.

Wordpres is best for blogging and good for SEO too. For me if i8 am going to create a new site, i still use wordpress. Thanks for your very detailed post Zach.
Great infographic there! I’m self-hosted on WordPress. I was just talking to a friend of mine this morning, who was confused as to whether or not he should move to a self-hosted platform. I believe that if it’s a personal blog and you’re just starting off, a great way to do it is on WordPress.com. But eventually when you start accumulating readership and you want to start monetizing (or if you are already earning through monetizing) then it’s best to move to a self-hosted WordPress blog because there’s a lot more flexibility esp. with plugins and content and a whole lot more control in general.
I’ve used WP in the past and I must confirm that is the best CMS on the internet. I will move to WP when I will start my own website, but first I have to search some funding.
This is so complicated lol. It’s like a mathematical equation lol. Umm. Blogger is an option for starting a new site. Blogger is always adding new features and now are a lot more seo friendly. Plus you can host infinite sites for free. I have about 15 sites, some for friends and family too.
I think Its become tough decision to move blogger to wordpress. Blogger added a many seo options like wordpress. Blogger is completely free and no server problem so why we should move to wordpress.
To me it is risky tranferring from blogspot to wordpress since you are comfortable with blog.it doesnt make sense at all…
