How to Prepare Your Blog for 2012

2012It’s 2012 again, and we’re at that time of the year when we need to start planning our blog for the months ahead. If you’re a blogger looking to make it in 2012, there isn’t a better time for you to begin preparing for your goals.

Instead of following the same old approach you took in 2010 and 2011, why not change to something new and help your blog grow this year? I will be giving you a few tips below to help you prepare your blog for 2012 below.

1. Don’t Make Resolutions

It is at this time of the year that people publish new year resolutions on their blogs. Just try to take a look at some of your favorite blogs and their new year resolutions for 2011; examine their blogs for the whole year to see if they really achieved what they aimed at for 2011. More often than not, you will notice that a lot of these blogs didn’t achieve their aim for 2011, yet they will publish new resolutions in 2012.

I think people are making publishing new year resolutions more of a habit, instead of examining it to see whether it works or not.

This is a new year, and you need a new approach. It is time to stop focusing on being a man of words, but to start focusing on being a man of action. Don’t make any promises this year. Don’t publish any resolution. Instead, work on being the very best you can, and develop a schedule to help you make this year the best.

2. Commit Yourself

Don’t for a moment think you can succeed as a blogger just by having goals. Don’t also think you can succeed by tending to your blog only every once in a while…or anytime you’re chanced. Instead, do something different this year.

Commit yourself; develop a schedule you want to follow for your blog. Create a strategy and stick to it.

I know this might sound harsh, but I really doubt if anyone who doesn’t have the determination to publish at least 3 articles a week can succeed this year. I’m not saying you should be publishing that much articles a week. I’m only saying you should have that kind of determination, because you will need it if you really want to succeed.

3. Embrace Marketing

I hate marketing“…”Marketing is the devil“…”Marketing sucks“…”Marketing is difficult” etc.

Those are words you should hate this year.

If you really want to succeed, you need to embrace marketing. Not in the obnoxious way, but in the cool way. Every business needs marketing to strive, and whether you agree or not, communicating the point of your blog to your readers in some way is marketing.

You also need to get out there and spread the word about your blog. Write guest posts for other blogs, use social media, use SEO, and use any ethical approach that can help you get results.

4. Only Teach what You Know

Don’t teach people to trade stocks when you haven’t traded yourself. Don’t treat people to get clients when you don’t have one.

Focus on teaching people what you have experience with, and be genuine about your experience with whatever you teach. I have a feeling that only people who know their stuff will succeed this year, and it is not too late for you to be a part of them.

Oni, you’ve just nailed it again! Passion driven experience, to me, is mostly the secret to success. Without having passion in what you do, and the relevant experience nothing can be achieved.

Your tips are worth to read. Whenever i check on FB saying you have written a guest post for any of the blog or have written in your blog itself i never let the post go without reading it completely.

Hey Onibalusi great post. If anyone has to become the successful blogger then he or she must do hard work and that too with full of dedication. Many bloggers that I came across are avoiding marketing and due to this they are not able to see the fruitful results. Marketing plays a very vital role whether it is for the website or for blog. So according to me marketing is a very important aspect that every blogger must take into account to get the best results.

Can you explain some of the advantages to embrace marketing?

Thanks for sharing your insights, Onibalusi. #4 could also say: “Teach what you know–or teach by sharing your learning experience along the way.”

One of the best ways to build & hold an audience could be for example, if Columbus had blogged every water-logged mistake & mutiny along his route to “discover India”. It’s preserved in his daily captain’s log, but imagine if he’d published it by carrier pigeon every day!
