Does Bloggers Block Exist?

Posted by on 13th Jul 2011 Blogging 7 comments

bloggers blocksAs someone who has been blogging for close to two years now I’m beginning to ask myself if there really is anything called bloggers block. Bloggers block, also known as writers block, is a situation in which a blogger finds it difficult to come up with any content idea, or a situation in which a blogger is able to come up with content ideas but simply can’t produce anything based on the ideas.

In my own experience bloggers block really do exist, but it happens to us all in a different way. When I just started blogging I will be experiencing occasional bloggers block and it would take sometimes for me to be better, but nowadays that I’m writing close to 50 articles in a week, or even more in some weeks, I’m starting to feel as if there is nothing called bloggers block.

Let’s Face the Reality

The reality is that some of us might not be experiencing bloggers block occasionally. It might only be once in a while but that doesn’t mean we should fail to acknowledge what really exists.

Bloggers block exists, and it happens to everybody, however a wise blogger will learn to understand what triggers the block and prevent it and will also learn how to make effective use of when he is most active.

Below are a few things to do if you see yourself experiencing blogger’s block more often – they are what I do, and they work in a great way.

Take Some Rest

The first step towards overcoming bloggers block is by making sure you’re resting regularly. I don’t know if you do experience it but there are situations in which I will start feeling an headache when working but as long as I rest for sometimes, or work in a very cool environment I will begin to work as if I just started again. This is as a result of stress and it can be a great productivity killer. What you should do instead is learn to take occasional breaks from whatever you are doing – by doing this you will be saving your energy and creativity for what you will be doing in the future.

Understand When You “Enter the Zone” – and Prepare for the Future

I so much love the concept of kung fu and martial arts as a kid that I thought I will devote a large period of my life to it. During this period I started reading books on the subject and in one of those books I was able to come across a concept called “entering the zone“. Everybody has a limit to what they can do, but there are times when we become super creative and effective to an extent that we will do something we have never done – in cases like this what we do can never be done again. This means they aren’t our ability, and are more of luck. The process is called entering the zone. A great tip to prepare for the future in the case of writers block is by making use of the period you are most productive. In cases like these you should be writing as many blog posts as you can and then be saving them for the future.

Here’s a quick and dirty trick I use to generate more content ideas: For every post I make, I look for phrases (noun and verb phrases) that would make great links to something… somewhere. Whatever I find, I blog about them and of course, link to the finished posts. Doing this, I’ve discovered an opportunity to expand on different topics exist in every post. Having the energy to do it all, however, is something else. A sole post could spur 5 – 10 separate ideas for new blog posts, so you’ll want to be rather judicious about what you decide on.

Every blogger has his own way to find ideas for blogging. It is really difficult for some bloggers to find topics to continue writting however other wise bloggers can always find new ideas for his blog everyday.

I manage to avoid it most of the time by having a couple of different blogs in a couple of different niches going. That way I don’t get burned out on one topic and don’t run out of ideas

Writing a blog is no different to any other piece of writing. Because all of your writing must have a, “sence of audience”. It must have purpose. You must know who you are writing for and you must know what your readers are expecting. And what they hope to learn from your words and yes, be entertained by them.

How you manage to achieve this this is undoubtedly down to the several techniques available to the writer… how you collect ideas, how you assemble the basic ideas, scripts, how you turn that into your own inimitable contribution for your readers.
