Personality – A Very Essential Trait of Successful Blogging

Posted by on 18th May 2011 Blogging 16 comments

A lot of bloggers give their best, they create content they see as the best for their readers only to end up seeing the content as a failure.

I have also experienced the same, wherein I did my best, put in lots of hours into a blog post only to see it end up as a failure. And I have written some posts I didn’t even expect to exceed a few hundred views only to see them skyrocket my traffic above the roof. The one question I ask myself is, what makes this post different from the others?

As a blogger, your blog is as successful as your content and there is no point in writing blog posts that don’t get read. There are so many things you can do to increase the likelihood of your blog post being read by your readers and one great, tested and proven thing to do to ensure your bog posts are always read is to make them more personal.

The Bond Between You and Your Readers

You might be asking yourself. Why is it that people read a post and not read the others when they both contain the same level of information or even when the post that is not read is more informative than the one that is read. The truth is what matters most isn’t your content but how it is being read.

It isn’t the information in your blog post that matters but how it is perceived, read an understood by your readers.

There is a bond that is always established between the writer and reader of any blog post. It is this bond that makes your reader feel connected to you and feel as if you’re communicating with him/her, it is this bond that make your reader want to take action upon what you share, it is this bond that encourages the reader to share your content and it is this bond that makes your reader see your content differently from every other content that can be found online.

The fun fact is that this bond is different for everybody and the bond experienced while reading your blog post, irrespective of how personal you are, will be different from mine even if I am very personal. You need to create this bond first, and the trigger of this bond is your personality.

Always ensure your personality shines in your blog posts. Write like you’re talking to your reader. Don’t write like you’re writing to a group of people, but like you’re having a personal communication with a close and trusted friend and you’ll see your content improve significantly in no time.

I have tested this particular formula over and over again, and it works every single time I make use of it. In fact, every single post I wrote using this method has been viewed over a thousand times whereas my average posts are being viewed only around 300 times.

Make effective use of it!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts Onibalusi. I agree with you that blog posts have to be personal and read like they are coming directly from the writer sharing it. I do feel however that blogs must contain in addition to that some facts, good information, readability, and for large traffic I believe some form of controversy is necessary. Discussion for me is why I love to read blog posts, thinking about the two sides of an issue makes reading stories and opinions of strangers interesting and exciting.

I love how you stress out the bond between bloggers and their readers. In my experience, one of the elements of becoming a reputable blogger is by creating a network of fellow bloggers. This gives you the opportunity to tap into there network increasing the chances of your post to be noticed and recognized. However, be very sure that your content is worth it :)

thanks for the post – i've never thought of this: you have to write your blog as if you're talking to one person, not a group of people. that is a great tip! i guess this may lead to very good results as people want to feel you care for them in your blog. thanks again!

Your post got my attention with the title! Now, that says something about how readers scan blog topics to read and then go on to the "read more."
Nicely written blog post demonstrates that the author has valuable experience. It is so refreshing to read this type of content.

Before I write any new blog post I always make it a point to do some research on the topic. Doing research allows me to write blog post that are relevant to my readers. Makes on sense wrting blog post that readers are not interested in.

Personality is important because we want to feel connected before we buy or follow something. So we get repeat visitors only when they ind us engaging.

It is really very important for bloggers to be humble and ready to admit their mistakes. Nobody is perfect and this trait will make your readers respect you more.

Yes yes yes to all of it! The first one I think is why so many bloggers quit so early in the game.

The current trend that I seem to notice about blogging, is how many blogs seem to fall off after 3 months.
I did a quick test a while ago where I put about 20 new blogs on my RSS reader and followed them for about 3 months. I then checked back up with them 3 months later and out of the 20 blogs, there were only 3 blogs that were active.
This goes to show you that people go into blogging with either the wrong intention or going into blogging expecting miracles to happen right away.
