Excuse me...should have said grammar and spelling errors ARE just astonishing. Getting my message out quickly trumped proofreading. Not good.

There will always be a continuum of thinkers in this world. The staunch conservatives at one end and the free thinking liberals at the other.

I think things work this way because we simply couldn't keep society together if things changed too fast. We are very adaptive creatures, but we also have a certain stake in routine and familiarity. They make us feel safe and help us order our world.

Change is inevitable, it is adaptive and evolutionary. But if it happens too fast, chaos is the result. You can't have ordered well functioning societies that exist in chaos. As with most things it comes down to balance.

This whole internet being the death of literacy is just one small example of how the process of change is accomplished in our society.

This is a very timely post. The grammar and spelling errors I see on popular blogs and websites is just astonishing! If you don't know the difference between your and you're or their, there and they're, for example, something is very wrong. I think we're just becoming lazy, actually. Getting the message quickly across trumps proofreading. Literacy is more than just general knowledge. Or it should be.
