You Need to Make Sacrifices to Make it as a Blogger

You Need to Make Sacrifices to Make it as a BloggerThe growth of blogging in the last 5 years has been nothing short of phenomenal. In the beginning blogs were mostly used for personal journals however since the platform went mainstream they are being used by everyone and can be found everywhere from large news sites to official government websites.

This growth didn’t surprise a lot of people. Blogging is probably the easiest and cheapest ways to start making money online. A domain name costs less than $10 with entry level hosting packages starting from around $5 a month. The advances in the blogging platform have also allowed non technical people to make a living from the web too.

If you subscribe to Blogging Tips then I have no doubt that you are trying to generate an income from your blog and perhaps even make a living from it one day in the future. Unfortunately, the truth is that most of you will not make a substancial amount of money from your blog.

Making it as a Successful Blogger

Unless you have the resources to invest heavily in advertising and developing a new blog or a platform to launch your new blog, it is unlikely your blog will start making good money until it has been online for around 6 months to a year (sometimes longer).

There have been some blogs becoming successful in a matter of weeks though they are undoubtedly the exceptions and not the rule. Generally speaking it takes many months to build your readership and increase traffic to a level which attracts advertisers.

This is incredibly demotivating for a lot of people. And I fully appreciate why as you make money a lot quicker with other types of websites. For example, if you research the right product and build a 50 page content website to promote it through affiliate links and banners, you can expect to see a small return after a month or so.

Blogs work differently. Blog articles are published chronologically, which encourages the reader to return to the blog frequently (compare this to a static content website where visitors will rarely return if no new information is being posted).

Therefore you need to update the site a lot more frequently. This means you could be working on your blog around 10 hours a week for several months before you see a good return. So it is understandable that a lot of bloggers lose patience and stop updating their blogs.

However, there is no quick and easy way to make money on the web (the people who say that there is are usually trying to sell an inferior product to you). Long term, it is those who work hard and persevere that reap the rewards. John Chow stressed this frequently in his new Making Money Online book.

In the book John tells readers bluntly that you require dedication to be a success. This is something which I hope you all realise. You really have to put the hours in to build a successful blog. I’ve seen many people claim bloggers like John Chow and Shoe Money simply got lucky but in reality, these high profile bloggers work their butts off day in day out.

You only have to look at the work some bloggers put into their blogs. Not only with their articles, but also with their products; such as Zac Johnsons ‘Six Figure Affiliate Blogging eBook‘, Nicholas Cardot’s ‘Blogging to the Third Power‘, or Alex Fraiser’s ‘From Planning to Earning‘.

You Need to Make Sacrifices to Make it as a Blogger

There are only so many hours in the day. Which means that at some point you will need to make a decision. You will need to decide whether you should work hard on that link bait article rather than relax and watch a DVD. You will need to decide whether to spend a few hours researching your next key article rather than hang out with your friends.

Simply put, you need to make sacrifices to make it as a blogger. You need to spend a lot of time writing, developing, and promoting your blog; time which you would no doubt prefer to spend doing something else.

Though I hope you all realise that if you never sacrifice your time and put all your energy into your blog, it will never be a success.

If you would like to win a signed copy of John Chows new book on making money with blogs then be sure to download a copy of Zacs Six Figure Affiliate Blogging. 10 random winners will be chosen at the end of the month from those who download this fantastic free 97 page eBook.

Good luck,
Kevin

Yeah.. although I'm blogging as a part-time activity, I realized that I had sacrificed a lot of things.. and a good thing is I feel satisfied with the results today =D

    Hi guys,

You do have to make sacrifices to become a successful blogger. Because I have heard so many bloggers say this. But hard work always pays off in the end. Thanks for sharing.

    Kind regards,

    Sam

Your words ring very true. In fact, I sacrificed quite a bit in order to get my first blog noticed. I didn't even realize that blogs had an income potential until after I already had a popular blog. I always encourage my readers to concentrate on their blogs and their readers first. If they do that, the money will come.

Always a great post Kevin, and always written specifically for me. I've been considering many of these things lately so you're timing was spot on.

Thanks for sharing. It's great to see your face around here again!

Good points. I like that there is not instant success because it weeds out the ones who put the time in and who really love to blog. But once you get over the hump, it is a lot of fun and you see a lot of success then.
