Staying Motivated

Posted by on 24th Feb 2010 Writing 2 comments

You’ve started off with a bang, your sizzle has turned to fizzle–what do you do? You get motivated!

Most people start a new project on cloud nine and spend as much time as possible working on the new project, but soon the new-ness and glory begin to fade causing you to lose hope perhaps–it’s just not as fun or as appealing as it once was. It doesn’t mean you’ve lost your passion–it just means you need to get pumped up again.

It doesn’t matter what kind of project or work you’re doing–it can be freelance writing, fiction writing, blogging, building an online business, playing piano, learning chess–it can be anything. Eventually you will have times that you just aren’t as motivated as you were in the beginning.

What do you do? You get motivated!

Zig Ziglar said, “People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing – that’s why we recommend it daily.”

Some people have the ability to stay motivated longer than others–some of us need it on a regular basis. I personally can attest to the fact that if I go very long without “plugging in” to a motivational speaker–I lose my drive for success. I don’t lose the desire, just the drive.

If you’re familiar with Network Marketing you know that the majority of those people plug in to training and motivational speakers–it helps them become successful and stay on top of their game. But network marketers aren’t the only people who can benefit from business training or listening to those motivational speakers. You simply apply it to your specific needs.

One of the great things about tapping into this information is the fact you can get a ton of the material on audio–either on CDs, audio books, or podcasts. So if you don’t have time to read all the great material out there–you can listen to it while you work, drive or relax.

My two favorites are Zig Ziglar and Dani Johnson, but there are many others to choose from; Brian Tracy, Tony Robbins, Robert Kiyosaki, Napolean Hill, Wayne Dyer, Bob Proctor–much of their material is available as audio books or podcasts. Do some research and listen to a few to decide who you like the best–not everyone is drawn to the same voice or style of speaking–just keep looking until you find one that motivates you and plug in to them as often as possible or as often as necessary.

Using motivational “therapy” will help your business grow, help you get more work done and you’ll also notice personal changes taking place too. So, if you feel less inspired and motivated than you did in the beginning of your venture–Get Motivated!

Thank you! I needed this bit of motivation! I try to keep myself motivated by reminding myself that even if I just take a small steps, they'll add up to a lot over time. Usually if I can just motivate myself to do something small, I often find that I gain enough momentum to do even more…

Thanks for the reminder and the mental boost. :)

Lecture interesting. I was in a convention center too bad the other day, so I did not pay attention in lecture.
