Charnita Fance7 Tools for Finding Out When You Are Unfollowed on Twitter

Some people like knowing when someone unfollows them on Twitter – personally I’d rather not know. Let’s face it, it can hurt a little knowing that someone disliked you (or what you said) enough to completely unfollow you. Can you take it? If so, here are a few tools that will keep you updated whenever you lose a Twitter follower.

Qwitter

This is one of the most popular services used for “catching Twitter quitters”. When someone unfollows you, you’ll get an email message letting you know who unfollowed you and what tweet you posted before they unfollowed you. It’s pretty simple to sign up; you’ll need to enter your Twitter username and email address.

Qwitter - Catching Twitter quitters.

TweetEffect

Here you can find out which of your tweets made people unfollow you. All you’ll need to enter is your Twitter ID. TweetEffect will then “analyze your data” and give you a list of all the tweets that affected your follower count. Unfortunately, it doesn’t tell you who unfollowed you; you’ll just be able to see how many unfollowed you and when. You can also see when you gained followers and how many as well.

TweetEffect - Find out which of your Twitter updates made people follow or leave you.

NutshellMail

This is actually one of my favorite tools all around. They will send you daily email updates with with status updates, tweets, replies and such for Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, MySpace and your email accounts. These daily summaries are totally customizable, so you can pick which info you’d like to keep up with. One of the options for Twitter is to be able to see your “latest quitters”. Unfortunately, even though I chose not to have this included in mine, I can still see it (not sure why).

NutshellMail brings a summary of your social network updates to your inbox in a single email on your schedule.

Goodbye, Buddy

This is a very simple way to view your unfollower stats. You’ll need to enter your Twitter username after which you’ll be taken to your stats page. In order to view your stats though, you’ll need to be following Buddy on Twitter. If you’re not already following him, it will alert you to do so and then return to the site in a few days. Besides being able to view your stats, you’ll also get a DM on Twitter when someone unfollows you.

Goodbye, Buddy - Twitter unfollower monitor.

Chirpstats

This service used to be called Twitterless and is another one where you have to follow them on Twitter first. The site says that after following them, you’ll receive a message with your first update in a couple of days. Basically, they’ll notify you on Twitter whenever someone unfollows you and let you know who it is. On the site, you can see a graph and chart of your follower history.

Chirpstats - A Twitter follower analytics package.

Mr. Unfollowr

This is a Twitter account that have to follow and it will then DM you on Twitter whenever you lose a follower. They don’t have any settings or stats that you can view directly on a website, but that is said to be coming soon.

Mr. Unfollowr - Track your unfollows and get a DM on Twitter.

Lost a Follower

This tools is pretty much like Qwitter. You’ll need to enter your Twitter username and email to sign up for the service. After that, they’ll send you an email whenever you lose a follower with the person’s username and your last tweet before they unfollowed. The only unfortunate thing is that the site seems to be down for an “extended period”. It says that “you may still sign up for the service, but it won’t be active for some time”. Now why would you want to sign up if you can’t use it?

Lost a Follower - Find out why you lose followers.

For those that do keep track of their lost followers, what tool do you use?

  1. These tolls look extremely helpful. It is always important to keep a clean Twitter account (I am not a fan of the following 10,000 twitter accounts).

It’s not a big deal to me. Right now the people who stop following me are the people I don’t follow back. I’ll admit I may pause if someone I liked stop following me but not enough to use one of these programs. It’s part of life.

  3. Nice summary. I was wondering if tools like this existed. I signed up. Now we’ll see if it’s my sarcasm, rude jokes or jewelry articles that does it! :)

  4. Thanks for sharing this, found Qwitter via your post and it’s much appreciated.

What? No mention of the Birdbrain app for iPhone/ iPod Touch? For $2.99, it tracks followers, unfollowers, following, unfollowing, # of updates, # of mentions, Retweeted, and Blocked. View Followers and Following Lists. View Nonreciprocal Followers and Following. It handles multiple accounts easily, for no additional “in-app” charge. And it doesn’t lag behind by hours or days, like some of these others.

One of the few things that some of your reviewed tools do that Birdbrain does not is tell you which tweet(s) preceded an unfollow.

Here is a link, I hope it works: Birdbrain Twitter Statistics

This is perfect. I need to know who I pissed off. Personally I don’t care. However, as a businessman, I need to know.

  10. Liz says:

A lot of these services, like Qwitter, no longer operate. And you leave off other services like http://twitdiff.appspot.com/.

Thanks for the article. I’m not sure if I want to know who un-follows me, I will have to think more on that, but it is nice to know I have the option.

People un-follow for so many reasons, but so far, it seems to me that these are the main ones:

1.) You chose not to follow them (or did not get to it fast enough)
2.) They aren’t interested in your content or vibe.
3.) They think you are just a “huckster” or a spammer
4.) They are getting overwhelmed with Tweets and are pruning.
5.) You don’t post often enough and are a stale Tweeter.
    6) Your content is too “adult” or offensive to them in some way.

I know that personally, I have un-followed people for each of the above reasons.

I’d be interested to hear of other you can think of.

  12. don’t take it deep to your heart cause it is just a social network.
