Thanks. I gave pingdom a try just a couple minutes ago, and my site was taking 14.5 seconds to load. I re-enabled wp super cache, and it's down to 5.1 instantly. I can't remember why I disabled it in the first place, but I may end up keeping it around.

Oh, I think I remember, seems like it caused some conflict with Entrecard…

If you want to rank at the top it is improtant to focus on load times and efficiency in addition to building quality backlinks. In addition to the techniques you have listed above, comprssing your website files can also prove effective. A simple GZIP compression of images and site files can achieve a 105 reduction in load time.

Interesting post, but I don't see the usefulness in outright disabling DISQUS – wouldn't a better solution have been to see if you could get to the root of the issue with that plugin? I use DISQUS on all of my sites and would never want to switch back to regular WordPress commenting – but then again, we haven't noticed that it causes a load lag either. Were you using the most up-to-date version of the plugin?

Yes, you're right. Sometimes big problem happens due to simple factor for example the usage of several plugins. The best way is trial and error where in the end we'll find the main cause of the problem. I guess this is a normal thing if you always involve yourself in solving the matters.

Safari's built-in Web Inspector has a great load timeline that shows how long each element took to load, and in what order. It doesn't offer advice like yslow, but packs a lot of information into one page.
