Hi there Jonathan, This is really a great advice. I really amaze on the way you present your thought here and can't argue about that because all you said here is true and I have employed them myself and the result is just amazing.

My recent post Setting and Achieving Goals- GROW Model

Thank you, Jonathan. These are all very solid tips for bloggers (and authors, speakers, entrepreneurs, small business owners, and ANYONE else interested in boosting their exposure through PR).

There are a couple of other media connection tools out there: PitchRate.com (my company's service) and ReporterConnection. Both are worth a look for anyone who's serious about connecting with the media for free publicity.

All bloggers try to become an authority in their niche, an expert who everyone turns to when looking for information on that particular topic.Personally, I have never done a press release even though many "guru´s" say it is a good marketing technique.I have focused on quality content, forums and social media and being realistic in the time it will take to become noticed online. If I keep pushing, I will get there.

I completely agree with this - being realistic is the key.
I've learned this on my own example. Starting out my business and wanting to succeed overnight. Take it slow is the way to go. One day at a time and not setting your goals too high.

Thank you for great tips. Very nice article.

Being realistic is the best advice on here. Many people are not realistic with their claims and don't end up achieving goals, which discourages them away from blogging and marketing in general. It's never good to try and over-achieve, just stick to reasonable sized goals and you'll go far

In my case I've identified an opportunity to assist a charity group...though it's not related to my industry, I'm planning on using my blog to get my readers to also contribute in it. Would you say it must always be related to your industry for it to get the media attention?

Being an expert on your topic is really the most important part. You need to make sure you know what you're talking about, otherwise there's no point to post it
