With the advent of the new year, we are all contemplating how we can improve our blogs. We can pick a new theme, change our blogging platform, increase our posting interval, or increase commenting on other blogs. But I’m here to say that nothing, I repeat, nothing will do more for your blog traffic than guest posting.
Kevin Muldoon, here at BloggingTips, provides a great service to bloggers by allowing guest posting. I am certainly not naive and understand that we are providing fresh content to Kevin in return for the guest post. But that is what makes it such a sweet arrangement. We both benefit. Here are the reasons why I choose to do a lot of guest posting.
1) Exposure
Taking advantage of a blog that has a huge readership is the true magic of guest posting. BloggingTips is very successful thanks to the hard work of Kevin Muldoon. We, as guest posters, can piggyback on Kevin’s success into our own exposure to a large audience. This is the best way to get recognized if you are just starting out as a new blogger or as an established blogger who wants to reach new readers.
2) Confirmation of your writing ability
We all understand that guest posting is a symbiotic relationship. We get exposure and the blog owner receives fresh content. But we also understand that the blog owner is very particular about the content that they publish. Their reputation and brand is at stake. If you are lucky enough to get published on a successful blog, this is certainly confirmation of your ability as a writer. You should be proud of this accomplishment.
3) Little successes help you gain momentum
Every time I send in a guest post to a successful blog the anticipation is a little nerve-wracking. If the blog owner is conscientious, they will get back to you within a few days to let you know if they will publish or not. When you do get that Thumbs Up email indicating an impending publish, it is exhilarating, to say the least. These successes in your blogging endeavor, just adds to your momentum to keep on blogging.
4) Building relationships with blog owners
This is one of the most beneficial aspects of guest posting. If you can gain the trust of an owner of a premier blog, it can help you immeasurably. This owner has already done what you are hoping to do; make a success of a blog. They may be willing to share some of their expertise with you as well as allowing you the exposure that you are striving for. It’s a win-win situation.
5) Developing skills writing for others
If you own a blog, you probably love to write. It doesn’t take a lot of common sense to come to that conclusion. You may have aspirations of writing as a way to make a living. I’ve had the fortunate opportunity, as a relatively new blogger, of writing guest posts for money. The more you write, like any other skill, the more accomplished you get. The more guest posting you do, the larger your online portfolio of work grows. If you are looking to expand and make a living writing for others, guest posting is certainly an appropriate and fortuitous path to travel.
Guest posting is a tool that all bloggers, new or established, should utilize to promote and expand their blogs. Exploring this powerful process will send you and your blogs to new heights in the coming year.

I haven't yet guest posted anything. But since I have the opportunity to do it now your post encouraged me more to take up on it. You can never say it doesn't work until you've tried it.
Hi Indrek,
Guest posting is highly recommended to drive traffic and it also gives you exposure to other audiences that you may not have previously reached. Good luck with your guest posting.
Best,
Bob
I did a little experiment regarding the benefits of guest blogging – the results were very interesting
Hi Andy,
I'll have to check out what you found.
Best,
Bob
Yes Bobs right. Direct traffic, exposure and indirect traffic because of SEO juice are the main benefits in my opinion.
Hi Kevin,
I appreciate you giving me the opportunity to guest post here for your large audience. Thanks for the comments as well. I think guest-posting is going to be the goal of choice for bloggers this year. Talk about a win-win…
Best,
Bob
Perfect timing Bob. I have decided today that I am going to write a post a day this year and start submitting a lot more guest posts. btw, I'd love to guest post for your blog, if you'd like me to?
Jen
Jen,
A post a day? Wow, that is very aggressive of you and good luck with that. Just send along an email to me on the guest post. I would be honored. I actually have a "Write for my blog" page that talks more about it. Thanks Jen for commenting on my post and talk soon.
Best,
Bob
This is very true, Bob. And for me, the number 4 is the one best applicable to me when I guest post here for 4 times.
Kevin was not only kind and helpful to me that time, but also supported me all the way even after my last guest post.
But of course, exposure is also a good reason as well as improving your writing skills and self-confidence.
Hi Angel,
Kevin has been very helpful to many bloggers in building exposure. He has been very helpful to me as well. We are fortunate to have such popular blog owners who help others like Kevin does. Thanks for commenting.
