By the time everyone reads this 2009 will be behind us and 2010 in our faces. So, I wanted to end it on a personal note sharing my top 5 favorite social media tools for 2009. These are also very useful tools that I feel everyone should at least give a try if you haven’t already. These are in no particular order. Feel free to share your favorite social media tools for 2009 as well in the comments.
I have a love/hate relationship with Twitter, but when I love it my favorite web tool to use is HootSuite. I have tried numerous Twitter clients and web tools and HootSuite is the first one that I’ve used consistently and for longer than just a few days! Mentioned on BloggingTips quite a few times, HootSuite not only can you manage multiple Twitter accounts but you can also connect your Facebook, LinkedIn and Ping.fm accounts. Plus HootSuite lets you schedule posts for all of these different social accounts as well. Lastly, I love the fact that I can create multiple tabs with multiple columns on each tab. This makes it easy to organize each one of your accounts.

I just got my iPod Touch a few months ago but the one app I cannot live without is Tweetie. Once again, I’ve tried many of the different iPhone/iPod Touch Twitter apps and I can take them or leave them. TweetDeck comes in a close second for me but I really love my Tweetie. My favorite feature is the fact that you can slide your finger over a tweet and get the following options: reply, share, view users profile, add to favorites, retweet, quote and translate. Plus you can also manage multiple accounts and even post to WordPress from Tweetie.
I don’t know if this can really be considered a social media tool but, I use it to keep up with all of my social media related links and tools while browsing the web. To be honest, I don’t really think I could live without Read It Later. Plus, with their iPhone/iPod Touch app and their integration with Tweetie, I’m even more hooked. As the name suggests, this tool lets you do just that - save links to read later. They also have a very useful Firefox Addon as well as a bookmarklet that can be used on other but they didn’t stop just there. To see the full list of tools and integrations they offer, you can stop by their apps page – it really is extensive. Read It Later is a great alternative to bookmarking and since they have so many tools, you can read your saved links just about anywhere.
Though I’ve reviewed Simler here before, I just wanted to mention it again because I definitely feel it’s underrated. Many people haven’t given it a chance long enough to see the potential in it, but I definitely feel that Simler will make its mark in 2010. They also run lots of contests, showing their love and support for their users. As you can see by the picture to the right, I was recently a winner of a Simler t-shirt.
In case you forgot or didn’t read about it:
Simler is a social messaging platform that allows you to connect with those who have the same types of interests as you. What makes Simler so unique is the ability to link like-minded users together via their tagging system. Upon joining Simler, users are asked to add tags to their account that describe and interest them; there is an infinite amount of tags that you can add.
I’m not sure how many of you are familiar with or use Posterous but it’s definitely a tool I think everyone should be using. It’s very similar to Tumblr and Soup.io but offers more features. It can be used for blogging or just for sharing text, images, videos and audio. To make things easy for you, they allow posting right from your email – no need to log into the site and create new posts. What I love best about Posterous is the autopost feature; it allows you to autopost to numerous other social networks like Twitter, Facebook, FriendFeed, Flickr and many more. The Posterous staff is very passionate about their product and are always adding new features. I have two Posterous sites of my own – one of which I’ve set up my own domain for.

With all of the great tools we’ve had in 2009, I can’t wait to see what emerges in 2010. How about you?

Where can I get those?
