Patti StaffordMy Incredimail Addiction

notifiersSeveral writers here at Blogging Tips have covered their addictions with Wordpress (I’m one), Google Chrome and various other applications sharing all the bells and whistles available for these fun and useful products. Today, I’d like to cover Incredimail.

I discovered it many years ago. The download is free, but it has a small ad banner at the bottom of the emails you send out. I don’t mind this, but less than a week into my first encounter with Incredimail, I had to support them by upgrading to Premium. The cost is $29.95, but it’s on special several times a year for $19.95—it’s on special right now.

Yes, it uses a lot more system resources than other stand alone email clients, but it’s so cute. The problem with it is the fact that if you use gmail on the web—you can’t see my gorgeous backgrounds. For this reason, I mainly keep to a plain old white background (especially for business email). But I do have friends and family that haven’t discovered gmail, and they can see my lovely email through their email host.

Let’s cover some highlights of Incredimail.

Awesome Backgrounds (aka Stationery)

Incredimail has some awesome backgrounds for emails covering just about every holiday under the sun, all the seasons of the year, sports, travel, cute stuff, funny stuff, emoticons, nature, animals, mountains, oceans, beaches—you name it; Incredimail has it.

Cooler than Cool Emoticons

Incredimail has some of the coolest and cutest emoticons I’ve seen, far outweighing the ones Yahoo messenger or other programs use. These are just adorable and no matter what you want to relay to someone—there’s an emoticon for it.

Too Cute Email Notifiers

Yep, this can be a distraction, but Incredimail offers some really fun email notifiers. You can even set up “Smart” notifiers for different email addresses. I use these for personal email from friends. It adds fun to a boring day when a cute kitty pops up on your screen to let you know you have personal email.

Animations

I don’t use 3D animations but it comes with some nifty stuff. They’re really cute, I just don’t have time to watch my email fold itself into an envelop and zip off into cyberland.

Letter Creation

With Incredimail you can upgrade to the Letter Creator edition. It comes with 10 free uses, but if you want unlimited, it costs $29.95 at this time (normally $39.95). With this feature you can create your own backgrounds with images, default font settings, specific animations, etc. If you like being creative and unique, this is a must have feature.

PhotoMail Maker

Photomail Maker is a brand new (almost stand alone) feature for Incredimail. You can use backgrounds that have the images of your choice placed into the placeholders. This is awesome for sending email with family pictures to grandma or other family members. The designs are very nice.

Skins

Incredimail has a variety of skins you can download, including skins for; holidays, seasons, cool colors, textures like wood and denim and hit movies.

Signatures

You can create multiple signature files for your outgoing mail.

Other Features

Multiple folders and subfolders, address book, message rules—useful stuff you really need.

All in all, Incredimail is a great product. I’ve used it since 2002. It can be as dull, boring and professional as you need it to be or as fun and creative as you want it.

Remember, people using the web version of gmail will not see your backgrounds (it’s a boring gmail issue), but those using yahoo and hotmail will. Incredimail does work with gmail accounts—I have gmail.

Test if for yourself. If you don’t like it, you can always ditch it.
