I use to chide myself for failing to spot the plenitude of errors in my articles and poems before pasting them on public forums. At a time I thought it was as a result of my carelessness.

Actually, I can't totally rule out my carelessness. Perhaps if I had given my former writing a little break before publishing them, I would have had something less abominable. I will keep that in mind.

Anyway, having my sisters leaf through my articles has helped reduce my typos.

Thank you, Larry, for that great post. :-)

LOL Larry. I was just thinking about this the other day. I never spot my own mistakes before I hit submit--but you can bet your last dollar I will spot everyone else's out there. Funny how that works isn't it?

Several years ago (when I still thought I wanted to be cooped up in someone else's office), I sent out dozens of resume's. It was nice too. My oldest daughter picks it up from the desk, looks at me and says, "Mom, you spelled your own name wrong."

I looked it over and said, "Well, I kind of like the name Particia. It reminds me of Morticia Addams."

At the time, I had that name about 35 years, you'd think it's not something you'd ever make a typo on--but it happens.

I've since dropped it to just my nick name - Patti. Many people spell that one wrong, but at least I get it right--well, except when I type it as Patto.

We're human--we make mistakes. Even editors and publishers miss things. I was reading a novel by Nora--uhm, a well-known author one time, and found a discrepancy in a characters shirt. She was wearing a sweater-- two pages later, without changing clothes, she was wearing a button up shirt. I felt much better as a writer after that. LOL

Great post Larry! If I've made a mistake here, you'll find it. Even though I've double-checked. :)

I agree, Larry. Walking away from a piece of writing and coming back to it with fresh eyes is a useful technique. I mostly proof my own work, but occasionally ask for help from someone just as discerning as your Mistress of Mistakes.
