Custom Coming Soon Page for WordPress Blogs

Coming Soon PageI recently set up a basic WordPress site for a friend. The site is for a company he is setting up so we just found a suitable corporate looking theme and got the site online.

I was speaking with my friend tonight about the site. He still needs to add content to the site but he wanted to setup some email addresses. After showing him how to do that he asked if we can put up a Under Construction message until he has written all the content for the site.

To do this I simply added a basic index.html file to the server with a coming soon message and a copy of his logo. This is what I usually do with sites which aren’t yet finished. However, this isn’t that practical as it means my friend can’t work on the home page. This is not a major issue for me but I’m sure it’s confusing for someone not familiar with WordPress.

Therefore I did a quick search for a suitable plugin. To my delight I found the perfect plugin within seconds of searching the WordPress Plugin directory. The plugin is called Custom Coming Soon Page and was developed by Mohit Aneja from CSS Jockey.

I was just looking for a basic coming soon landing page however this plugin offers so much more. You can customise the page very easily through the plugin options area and you can also add additional information to the page like your Twitter, FaceBook and RSS details.

Here is a custom page I developed for BloggingTips. This literally took me 10 seconds to setup!

Coming Soon Page

If you are launching a new site or need to close down a new one temporarily I highly recommend using this plugin. You can edit the text displayed on the home page and the meta information too so you can use it as a temporary coming soon page for just about any reason. You can also collect email addresses in the meantime and set the launch date of your site.

I love wordpress for its plethora of amazing plug-ins. A few months ago I was looking for something similar and found a plug in called “maintenance mode” which sounds like it might be very similar to what you found.
