As the title implies, Zannel lets you share pictures, videos and even text across various social networks at once. If you have a Twitter account (who doesn’t) then you can login using your credentials or, if you prefer you can create a Zannel account. Sharing on Zannel can be done via the web or your mobile phone – you’ll get an email to which you can send your update from your mobile device.
You can currently connect your Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, YouTube and Flickr accounts. If you’re looking for even more options, you can connect Zannel with your WordPress or Movable Type blog. To configure your Twitter account you’ll have to enter your credentials – which will already be filled in if you logged in with them. For Facebook, you’ll need to use their application.
Another thing you’ll want to do is set up your profile and connect your mobile device so that you can send mobile updates. You can also design your profile by uploading your own wallpaper. There are also quite a few privacy options to choose from like who can follow you, who can see your updates, who can send you invites, etc. There’s also a “family filter” setting for those who don’t want to see restricted content. It’s on by default so if you don’t want any restrictions on what you can see, you’ll need to turn it off in your settings.
You can also customize your alert preferences. You can choose to have them totally off or specify a time range to receive them – this way, you won’t get woken up at 4am with text messages. You also get to choose which kind of alerts get sent to you. So as you can see, there is an abundance of customization options.
Posting on Zannel is as easy as sending a tweet except you can add an attachment. Once you post it will go in your timeline, pretty simple stuff. Depending on your privacy settings, others will be able to see it in the public timeline which is set up pretty much like any microblogging type tool.
Using the “Explore” tab you can dig deeper into Zannel and see what others are talking about and sharing. Since you can use hashtags on Zannel (just like Twitter), the top hashtags are what you’ll see listed under the “Explore” tab. So clicking on tattoos, for example, would bring up all updates with the hashtag #tattoos in it. Results are displayed in a group-like fashion and the description of the group will even tell you what hashtag you need to use in order to see your post there.
Digging deeper, Zannel proves to be a great community oriented, microblogging tool with a lot to offer. It’s definitely worth checking out if you’re looking for something to play around on besides Twitter.
