Personal Theme: Feedback on 2 Sidebars Option

On Saturday I gave you all an update on the upcoming Personal Blog Theme. Rajat and Oliver from Blog Design Studio have been working hard on adding the extra colour options to the theme and looking at adding two sidebars.

2 sidebars is a feature which a few readers asked about. The theme was originally designed with 1 sidebar in mind so it proved a little difficult to place a sidebar on either side. It is obviously possible to do this however doing so would mean that the main content area would be greatly reduced and the information in the sidebar would look all squashed too. I’m sure that some of you out there may still want this and will edit the theme to have a sidebar on each end but it’s not something I wanted in the official release (i.e. I want the officially released theme to look good).

2 Sidebars

We have been able to add 2 sidebars though they will appear on the same side (left or right). Have a look at the image below and tell me what you think. Is the information squeezed in too much or do you think it looks ok?

I actually think it looks ok and it will allow users to present information in a different way if they want. For example, they could place recent posts and comments on the left hand side and an Adsense advertisment on the right hand side.

Personal Theme 2 Columns

If you guys are happy with the 2 sidebar option in the preview above, then I will ask Rajat and Oliver to add it to the design and make 2 sidebars an option in the admin panel. Information within the sidebars will be controlled via widgets though you will be able to hard code it in the templates as well.

More Colours

Here is a preview of some of the other colour options we are adding to the design. My personal favourite is the black. Simply click on a preview to see the image in full.

The last theme being designed is Pink, which will bring the total number of theme colours up to 10. I’m sure that there is a design to suit everyone but you can always use one of the themes as a base and modify it to suit your needs.

    Both looks good. But 1 sidebar themes are little bit ahead of it's perfect view. But you can release both with 2 names.

    I don't think the two sidebars look squeezed in. The example you have looks fine. I use two sidebars on my blog and this is definitely an option I would like to have. The colors are great too!

    The image preview you have on this post shows a picture on the right with a tree. Will there be an option to place our own picture?
