Patti StaffordTips for Success: Begin With the End in Mind

end-resultIn my last post, Are You Limiting Your Success, I covered things that may be keeping you from the success you desire. It’s only fitting that I now offer you some tips on reaching your success. But please remember, success does not happen overnight and it’s generally a work in progress. You will have areas that you’re weak in and need to work harder on. But time and persistence pay off.

Define your goals and visualize the end result. Successful people focus on the goal, not the process. They also commit their goals in writing and read them daily. Goal setting is the beginning of a new reality.

Think more positive and avoid the news. The news is the most depressing thing in the world—avoid it! Trust me, if the world comes to an end, someone will tell you about it.

Create a positive environment by putting positive information in your head. It’s essential to success. Successful people are not negative or depressed, they spend part of their free time reading and listening to motivational material.

Change your thinking. Motivational material will also help in this area. They say that fifty to sixty thousand thoughts go through the mind each day. Ninety five percent of those are related to the past. The past not only holds us back, it prevents us from focusing on the future. If you must think about the past, at least think about happy times and remember how good you felt.

Focus on the future. I guess the other tips have been leading up to this, but it’s important to state. This can be very difficult if you’re new at it. But doing so is the first step to change and growth.

Mark Yarnell says, “Successful people always concentrate on the end result, while others get stuck focusing on the process, the “how.”

Use affirmations. This can be a difficult process in the beginning too, especially if you’ve been a negative thinker all your life. It takes persistence but it can be done. Start with something small and gradually build on it.

As you do this you will start to notice changes in yourself and it will become easier. It’s almost like shedding old skin and replacing it with new skin. I’ve witnessed this in my personal experiences. I do fall backwards at times but the adage of “fake it til you make it,” does ring true.

Avoid depressing situations and depressed, negative people. Nothing is more draining or can keep you from success like negative people. Moods are contagious, especially bad or unpleasant moods so avoid them like the plague.

This is just a small sampling of tips for success, but it truly does begin in the mind with positive thinking.

Wow – amazing post! This is exactly what I needed to hear right now. You rock. Thanks.

  2. Thanks Patti. I’m just 7 months into a startup company, and there have been times when I really wondered if what I was doing was going anywhere. But as I’m glad to be reminded, thinking positive and keeping the goal in mind is crucial. Cheers!

I agree with you on avoiding the news, it’s very depressing and will only bring you down. The majority of what they discuss is all negative stuff. Not good for the mind. I have some motivational CD’s by Wayne Dyer and I play them from time to time when I’m feeling down to help get my mind thinking in a more positive direction. My regards on an exceptional post.
