The pendulum seems to swing between minimalism and utter sensory overload. It's easy to read and offers a wealth of information right from the homepage. Each person's individual tastes may vary, but it hits upon many of the "wickets" of good design. Although we won't incorporate anything directly from what CNN has done, the ideas of making articles easy to share, above the fold navigation and top items, and lots of content right from the homepage are all actionable items for any good blog to include in their design.
