Hot Topic: The Calling Card for Your Blog

Picture 2Choosing a motif for your blog may be one of the most important things you do prior to its launch. If you take the time to really think through the concept of your blog before you get started, a lot of things will be able to better take shape around your blog once you have taken the dive.

I find the selection of a blog motif to be particularly important as it sets the stage for everything you do with your blog later on down the line. Your blog motif encompasses everything from your theme to the type of content you include in your articles.

Another important aspect of your blog that is tied to your motif is your blog theme, which is another important aspect of your blog that should be determined before you get started. The look and feel of your blog is a key component of your online publication. As such, the two should be related so that your blog is uniform, easy to recognize and even easier to comprehend.

Your blog motif also goes hand in hand with your blog’s brand. As I just mentioned, your blog is an online publication. For you, that means your blog is a business. Treat it as such by ensuring that your blog brand can be understood loud and clear. This all goes towards the marketing of your blog, and your ability to portray yourself and your content as trusted by your readers.

Remembering that your blog motif is an important aspect of your online publication’s brand will also help you to determine certain things in the future. For instance, the topics covered on your blog will be in part determined by your blog motif. Advertising, promotions, contests, guest articles and other ways in which your blog can be monetized are related to your blog motif as well.

More importantly, your ability to remain dedicated to your blog is something to consider when choosing a blog motif. Many people trying their hand at blogging for the first time will try to think of a new topic all together. That is not always the best route for thinking of a blog motif, as nearly every topic imaginable has been addressed by a blogger. Instead, consider things like your level of interest in a particular topic, because this will be a driving factor in your ability to commit to your blog as a brand. Will you have a desire to write about this topic for weeks and months, even years on end?

In the near future I will be discussing pointers for selecting a feasible blog motif, as I feel this discussion deserves a complete and comprehensive article. Some other great pointers to consider in the mean time come from another BloggingTips writer, Sharon Hurley Hall. She offers her own lessons learned regarding things to consider before launching your own blog, including the importance of things like having a unique theme that appeals to current and potential readers alike.

Thank you for your superb article. But I had difficulty navigating through your web site because I kept getting 502 bad gateway error. Just thought to let you know.
