I have the same problem of too many tasks/projects going at once. I've been working on a time management series here--but this tip is excellent. I think I'll start using it tomorrow, like you said, it can't hurt and I'm always up for any new ideas that can help productivity and time management.

Thanks for sharing, Jonathan!

This is a good tip, it is like having a race between you and the clock- a competition over an inanimate object. Yet, I think this will work for competitive people and also for the disciplined ones. I think it takes a lot of discipline to follow a time frame which is dictated by an inanimate object, I mean some of us wouldn't finish our tasks unless scolded my our bosses. I have tried this technique and the result is not a total success. Sometimes, I win over my clock and it feels rewarding. However, when I’m really out of my mood, I tend to just throw the clock away.

Great post! I had tried experimenting with timing tasks even before. Your post jolts me back to those moments and refreshes the way I look at things too.
Thanks, and good luck!

i use clockingit.com to manage my writing tasks but i like this method because its more about staying focused for a specific length of time e.g. 25min which is more achievable and definitive than just timing a set task. thanks for the post - this is a problem ive been having lately since i broke my ankle and have been house bound!

I've used this timer method for about six months and my results have been fantastic. I do best with a 45/15 schedule. This has kept me focused on actually accomplishing something, knowing that I have time built in for responding to email and phone calls. Good luck!

I've been procrastinating a lot lately. It's something about this time of year that makes me want to do everything. It's just my favorite time of year. But I'm going to try this today. I have an old alarm clock that I'll use. :)

Thanks for sharing,
