2 months ago I showed you all how to create a Facebook fan page for your blog and how to add a newsletter to your fan page.
At the time I was unaware of you can claim your username for your fan page. Syed Balkhi from WPBeginner brought this to my attention today.
All you need to do is go to http://www.facebook.com/username/ and check the availability of your desired username for your blog page. You can choose one username for each fan page you have created. You just need to make sure that the name isn’t already taken and then confirm that you are ok to proceed.
This allowed me to change the Blogging Tips Facebook page URL from http://www.facebook.com/pages/Blogging-Tips/112167429718 to the much easier to remember http://www.facebook.com/BloggingTips.
Please note:
What are you waiting for; Go and claim your Facebook fan page username now!

* Thanks again to Syed for bringing this to my attention

Thanks Kevin for the mention
Yeah This is a pretty slick trick that most don’t know about. Glad that you shared it with others.
Btw: Kevin found out about this he is on the Problogger Forum which you all should join because that is where I posted this exclusive tutorial
It is an excellent place for bloggers.
When I go to the URL I want, it says it does not exist but does not offer a way to claim it as the fan page URL… Is there a trick to this? I can change my personal username, but I do not think this applies to the fan page URL… We have more than 25 fans.
I’m quite slow tonight it seems. You mean to actually go to the /username/ URL. Now it works!

Much nicer. Thanks for the tip!

The best part of claiming usernames on Facebook is claiming other people’s usernames. I think we’re all hoping on a new dot com explosion. That’d be pretty sweet to get in on!
@Finch – That’s quite sleazy, I hope Facebook realizes you are a squatter and releases the usernames to someone who actually has a right to them.
Many people face problem to choose relevant user names. Because the name they choose was already chosen by others. Thanks for this tips
User name is a good idea. By the help of user name we don’t need to search the fan page or person. We can open directly the profile or fan page profile. Thanks for the tips.
