In order to stay up to date, I subscribe to a lot of great blogs via my newsreader. I categorise blogs into different sections to help me find the information I want quickly (e.g. blogging, marketing, domain names etc).
As a blogger, I think it is very important to stay up to date with the latest news and discussions with your blogs topic and with blogging and web development in general. This is particularly true for those that are still developing as a blogger.
You will be aware of many of these blogs though I hope that I bring your attention to a few gems you haven’t found yet.
Please note, I am aware that I have left out some popular blogs. Some I may have been unaware of though I didn’t include some great blogs such as Dosh Dosh as they haven’t been updated in a few months. My aim was to build a list of blogs which are still updated regularly so many blogs had to be dropped from the list.

This is a refreshing list indeed. Many I didn’t know about. Thanks for sharing
YES! I’m so glad you listed
BloggingWithoutABlog
and
MenWithPens
They’re two of my favorites!
http://www.confidentwriting.com/blog/
also provides excellent insights too.
Well, I’m doing something right! Already subscribing to many of these and checking out the new ones that I didn’t know about until now. Thanks Kevin.
I also love Jonathan Fields, Penelope Trunk and Chris Guillebeau. There are so many amazing writers out there and so much inspiration. Incredible really… the world is changing, media is changing and we are changing it together. I look forward to following the transformation of communication and media.
Ohhhh… I cant’ believe you are not mentioning FineCraftGuild…… ha ha… We all need time to PLAY…
And on that,
my second response to the article was: ‘WHO HAS TIME TO ** BREATHE ** WHEN HAVING TO READ ALL THOSE BLOGS… including Mr. Chow, no less…. ha ha…
At least I know a few to exclude from the list, making it just ‘another blogging homework project of say only 90 blogs to keep up with… ‘.
Anyhow, after all, thank you for posting, as I amsure there are a few that are actual good reads and eye openers..
Glad you like the list. If I missed any good blogs which you think others would like, please feel free to share them here
Whilst compiling the original list I had to remove about 20-25 blogs. Some of the blogs had not been updated much recently (e.g. winningtheweb) whilst others were just not related to bloggers.
For example, I had included Larry Brooks Story Fix originally as he is a published writer and regularly gives good writing tips. Though his blog is targeted to fiction writers rather than bloggers so it had to be dropped.
Barbara – ConfidentWriting seems like a good blog. I never came across that when compiling the list.
Annabel – Glad you like the list. Chris Guillebeau seems like a good blog. I enjoy listing to writers who travel
Rose – Yeah it’s a big list. That’s why I categorise all my subscriptions into different topics. Makes checking the latest posts much much easier.
Nice.
Fantastic list. Alas, with so many blogs to follow when will I ever have time to write a post!
Great list. You have given beginners and grizzled vets a great place for tips, tricks and strategies. Just hope I can find time to write something!
quite the list nice research and follow thru
You obviously didn’t think this post out because some of them are great blogs but most are complete rubbish, provide no value, have no passion and are just after a quick buck. Perhaps this post should be renamed 20 great websites and 81 that tried to copy us just to make money and failed epicaly.
Sorry, just how I feel and fed up with it.
Michael
I did put a lot of thought into the post. As I said, many were dropped from a larger list. I subscribe to the majority of these blogs and enjoy reading them.
Can you tell me some of the 81 blogs which are rubbish, provide no value, have no passion and are just after a quick buck?
I think it’s more down to relevence, so many just aren’t relevent to anything. I know it’s hard to fill a list and I make my fair share of mystakes but I think you shouldn’t of started with a number but instead started with the blogs you felt deserved to make the list.
Let me point out an example, I have a large site in design and coding and I know very well who I would consider at the top of the game and you included 2 or 3 but missed all the great blogs and instead used a bunch just to fill up the spaces. Now I know it’s not easy to know who’s hot and who’s not when your not really into the subject but come on it’s usually quite obvious just by the comments people leave. If a website is “great” they won’t have a comment average of 1 on each post. I know ive been quite harsh but perhaps a nicer way to rename the post would of been “30 Great Blogs that impacted the way I do business” or something like that.
Michael
Well for a start, I didn’t start with a number. I subscribe to well over 100 blogs myself, most of which are on this blog list. They not offer value to you but they do to me, and that is why I have shared them with my readers.
I then searched for other blogs and the list grew to over 150. I then shortened the list to 125 and then removed more when it was clear that many are not updated that often.
This was not a list of the most popular blogs. If I wanted to do that I could have just copied the technorati top 100 and saved myself a lot of time.
I also disagree that comments are perfect indication of a great blog. Some of my favourite blogs only have 1 or 2 comments but they consistently offer great advice.
Take Paul Piotrowskis Inspired MoneyMaker for example. He wrote a fantastic article two days ago entitled Is Your Audience Slowing Down Your Growth?. It was a real thought provoking article and was of some length but so far, it only has 2 comments. Does this mean that his blog should not have been included in this list?
You also have to remember that this list was written from a bloggers point of view, not from a designers. If you look at the design and coding blogs which I have listed, you will see that most of them cater to beginners as well and regularly provide easy to follow tutorials and free images like icons and backgrounds etc.
I appreciate that everyone will not agree with the list, that is impossible to do and something which I had no interest in trying to achieve. However, I really don’t understand how you can say that only 20 sites on that list are worth subscribing to and the rest are rubbish, provide no value, have no passion and are just after a quick buck. Can you give some examples of blogs which are guilty of this?
Wow that’s an exhausting list you’ve made! I didn’t know that Daniel Scocco had created Daily Writing Tips (only followed the blue one for a long time).
Excellent blog list, so far I have been already subscribed to 40 of them including this blog and now I see there are more blogs to subscribe, thanks…
Thanks Kevin, what a great list! I have found some new faves there.
Alright there, Kevin. Pretty stoked you put me at the top of the pile. I know it’s not indicative of anything really, but it’s appreciated all the same. Have a good one.
Don’t mention it. The benefit of designing the iconic Blogging Tips logo I guess haha
Nah, I would love to say that the list is in some sort of order but it was mostly placed in the order that I wrote them down when writing the post
Oh Snap!
You have forgotten mine:
http;//dyvantity.com
It’s okay!!! I’m not upset…
Kevin,
Thanks for the compilation. After reading this article I’ve also included http://www.bloggingtips.com in my RSS subscription list.
Kardeno
Fantastic list.
Uhmmm i think you’ve forgotten to add yourself.
Great interesting post just as always
Appreciate the inclusion of Twittercism, Kevin – cheers!
Nice list Kevin! I found a few gems in there that I did not know about. Your post has met its goal of introducing new blogs to at least one reader.
Rob – LexiConn
Kevin – I have been looking for a post like this. Thanks for pulling all of these together. The only one I would have added is Occam’s Razor by Avinash Kaushik. The guys is brilliant.
I would love to drop this whole list into a reader without having to cut and paste each and every feed URL. Help?
That’s something I hadn’t thought about. Suppose it would be possible to create a backup file via a newsreader by exporting. But it’s maybe best to go through some of them first to see if you like the content there.
Wow! What an extensive list! I found a whole bunch that I didn’t know of! Thanks!
Thanks. Had never come across Fuelmyblogging. Subscribed
Incredibly useful list !
I wonder why the official Google webmaster Central blog was left out though.
Thanks for taking the efforts !
In hindsight, I should have included that in the Search Engine section
Fantastic tips!
An OPML file would be great.
I’ve seen lots of lists like these before, but this one’s truly great, and the screenshots alone show the time you’ve put into it – excellent!
Hi Kevin,
WOW! What a comprehensive list of blogs. You’ve done a great (and time consuming) job of showcasing them.
I am humbled and honored to be included. Thank you very much.
Kevin, Barbara totally deserves to be mentioned and Barbara I am so pleased your blog is recognized. You both are very generous people and I appreciate your efforts.
Hey Kevin,
Nice to know that you read my blog too; I’ve been a fan of bloggingtips for over a year now.
Thanks for the kind words sir!
Jim

OPML File
Though I didn’t go through and edit the names of all the blogs.
This is truly a very well researched and thought out posting that we can all appreciate. Some of the blogs you mentioned were vital to my growth as a Blogger, primarily ProBlogger. Also listed is 2 of my favorite sites I strive to be more like Mashable and LifeHacker. Great list! Love the post.
Great List!! Sad to see DoshDosh.com being excluded. But I understand that Maki does not update the blog often nowadays.
How about getting all the RSS feeds in an OPML file?
Thanks a lot for including me in this list. It’s truly an honor to be listed among all of the great bloggers!
The new site looks awesome! I saw a tweet from John Chow and was checking out the article (no idea of the sites listed). Then I saw RoyalTutorial.com listed at #3! Thanks so much, site looks awesome!
Great list. I sure found some blogs I didnt know before that probably have great content as well.
P.S. my goal is for my blog to be listed on some of these lists in the future..
I think your Title should be 102-top-blogs, and include my blog at the 102th position. Lol…
A very comprehensive listings. I am going to blog-walking all the blogs listed above.
Thanks for the info.
Thanks for the post..these are really the best blogs around..
You forgot about AdHustler.com – #1 Affiliate Marketing/Internet Marketing Blog
Thanks for the two mentions
Just tweeted it, very nice compilation.
Great list, Kevin, wow, you must never sleep…thanks for the mentions.
great list..very useful
I have found some new blogs in this list – thanks
Glad you all enjoyed the list.
Great list, great blogs!
I linked to this from my blog.

Some of these blogs are already on my list and are great, but some are just not worth mentioning. I would suggest this should have been 25 blogs long or so, instead of 101. So how did you come up with the 101 number? Is it like 101 dalmations? All kidding aside, thanks for the list and I have bookmarked it and passed it along by Twitter (that’s the idea right?)
great list! thanks!
Thanks heaps Kevin for adding WPTavern to the list and for continuing to use it as a source for all sorts of WordPress news. Not only did you add a link to the site, but you published the RSS feed as well which I truly appreciate.
Amazing,From $3,000 to $170,000 in Shock…

I totally agree and feel that as a blogger, I think it is very important to stay up to date with the latest news and discussions with your blogs topic and with blogging and web development in general. blogging is not just about writing but building networks
I liked the article. This blog always give me something good to learn whenever I visit here. In addition to the article I got say that As a blogger, I think it is very important to stay up to date with the latest news and discussions with your blogs topic and with blogging and web development in general.
Thanks for the list.
Hello Kevin,
Simply “Wow” list of collections. I’m certainly going to subscribe them. Thanks for this huge and beneficial list.
Cheers, Sid!
I haven’t seen a good list like this in a long time. Simply awesome! Now I have plenty of things to look into and read this weekend. Thanks!
yeah definately a great collection thanks!
Thanks for the mention mate, I am glad you find my blog worthy of the list.
Cheers,
John
You got the title wrong
You haven’t included a single excellent edublog!
Here is a quick list to edublog lists or simply 10 edublogs to get you started:
http://zaidlearn.blogspot.com/2009/09/best-edu-blogs-on-planet.html
It is amazing how ignorant some famous bloggers are
I suppose I am partly referring to you, but I have to say you have put together a splendid list, but it totally lacks juicy edublogs.
Until you manage to cook up a few, this list is just ordinary, but large
Let’s face it, any mushroom blogger can cook up a list taht you just did. Why why not just splash up the technorati top 100
Thanks for reading my comment
Cheers!
Has anyone compiled the list into an OPML file?
If there are 74 responses, where are they? I can only see seven?
Kevin published the OPML file in an earlier comment but this template is weird. I can not find the previous comments anywhere.
Jeffro – it is displayed at the bottom under Older Comments.
Some awesome sites there, but some I wouldn’t have included…
You would also get more comments if you put your comment box above the comments, rather than beneath it… yes I know it encourages people to read the comments, but still
I am bookmarking this site for future reference. Being a webmaster there is no doubt this helps me alot.
Thanks for sharing.
waaaw its a great collection list, keep going:)
Hi Kevin Muldoon,
I found a few gems in there that I did not know about. Your post has met its goal of introducing new blogs to at least one reader. Thanks for Sharing Informative List..
