It is now mid September and now is the time to start thinking about what you plan to do for Christmas on your website. You will no doubt notice over the next week or so that the shops will begin to sell Christmas gifts, I know I’ve seen a christmas tree already!
Christmas can be a very fruitful time for everyone on the Internet weather you are selling a product or just blogging about them. Christmas is when more people want to buy something as they are in a better frame of mind.
You have seen over the years many sites that adopt the snow effect or go even further and redesign their whole website just for Christmas but you don’t need to go as far as that. You need to choose what is best for you.
You should be considering the following:
Depending on what your budget is or even if you have one there are many things that you can do to create the holiday spirit on your website. To start off with you can simply make a few changes to the colours used on your website or update your logo to have some snow on it.
It is always good to have an offer on your website for Christmas as it will entice some more buyers to part with their cash or sign up to your newsletter, so have a good think about what you could offer. It doesn’t even have to be something you have to sell why not create some nice Christmas backgrounds or buttons for others to use and give them away. You can also dangle your own carrot by asking a user to sign up to your newsletter or you might just want to give them away without nothing in return after all it will be Christmas.
One definite thing you should be thinking about is the Christmas newsletter or Christmas email you send out to your users. From past experience and I am sure you will agree with me that over the Christmas period you will receive a large amount of emails wishing you a happy Christmas so if you are thinking about sending one out try and do something that will be remembered.
After Christmas many forget that there is another opportunity to interact with your users. The new year gives you a good point to start the year with a bang. Again you might want to consider a new offer or give away something free, you may want to update your website to have a few fireworks or add a special header with a good photo of the town you are in starting off the new year. There are so many ideas it would be good to hear how you have done it in the past.
Although many websites update their sites to have all the colours of Christmas and they set their newsletters and special offers do we really need to be doing this?
In my opinion yes we do, if you don’t then other websites will and if they are a competitor then this might be all the convincing a users needs to sign up to their site rather than yours. I am not saying you should go all out and redesign the whole of your website but you should do something. It shows that you have a friendly side to you and that you want to connect to your users in a more personal way.
It would be great to hear how you have updated your site in the past or even how you may be doing it this year.

Wow really? Preparing for xmas starts now? I’m not a big fan of starting xmas preparations before the end of November. But you give some good points here so I guess I need to look into that part.
When should I begin to implement the xmas template and xmas offers when it’s ready?
That is a good question, i would not implement the design or offers yet but i do think you have to start thinking about what you might do for the Christmas period. i would tend to look at implementing it by the first of December but that will also depend on you and your site.
my prefer coca cola is light
I would not decorate my website before Dec 1st! It is bad enough that you can buy Christmas cookies and stuff in the supermarket already!
Unless you guys are blogging for fun, now is really the time to spruce up blogs and websites. Considering another another 2 months plus to go, you might want to spend time doing your marketing online and SERP instead. It does take up a bit of time to work up visitors `buying mood’ you know. Anyway, have fun!
Ok, I have thought it through one more time. I am only blogging for fun. But it is nice to do something special for Christmas. And this will need preparation. Thanx for reminding! (Well I just started my blog less than a month ago – I am still learning!)
