If you’ve been writing on or just watching the Internet for any length of time, then you’ll know that you need to keep all
the content on your blog fresh. That means you’ll need to come up with ideas and techniques to motivate you so that you can turn out new content continually. Here’s a few suggestions that might help.
- Always be open to new ideas. The concept here is to never shut down or give yourself a rest from the possibilities for topics that are all around. A healthy natural curiosity about the people, places and things around you will inevitably give rise to new ideas for blogs. If you stay interested, great ideas will stay with you until you can get back to your computer.
- Don’t over do it. Writing isn’t like other jobs and it’s never a good idea to write until you drop. Sometimes taking little breaks for five or ten will rekindle the batteries. If you’re like me, there’s a tendency to push your limits like you’re at a swim meet. If that’s you too, try and change. There’s no medal at the end and no records to set. Good blogs come out at their own speed sometimes and you need to know where you are in that creative cycle.
- Plan out your content. There’s an old saying about painting being almost 80% preparation. That’s true for the best blogs as well. It even helps to keep a pad and pen handy to write down points about where you want to go with the blog. There’s been many times that I get two good thoughts at the same time or one good one while I’m in the middle of writing down another. If I’ve got space to jot even just one word down somewhere, I find I can go back and finish the one thought I’ve started without further interruption.
Of course it’s best if you write the blog out all the way through first. Don’t bother looking for the misspelled words and other typos in the first draft. The time to go back and fix all that is after you’ve said everything you need to once.
Finally remember that you don’t need to over think what you are doing. Even though your blog posts will wind up on the Internet where many people will be able to see them, you won’t get the best results by dwelling on the significance of each and every word.

Good tips. Taking a break and taking your time to develop good content are crucial keys!
It also seems that the more that you write, the easier that it gets.
Short and sweet. Thanks, Rob. Excellent thoughts.
Best, Robin
Dwelling on the significance of each and every word… that makes me think…hmmn.. I used to do that. until I realized that most readers just scan the content within 10 seconds, and after that, it's done. Lucky if you get a couple of comments
