The reason is that it's very simple and you can setup a webpage in minutes. Adding content is easy and it's just very organized. Now I will say you have far less control over layout then you do in joomla. You can pretty much tell site uses wordpress as soon as you open it. Joomla has far more varied layouts and some of the themes are incredible! With all that being said i still prefer wordpress for it's ease of use.
