Sales Copy Versus The Personal Blog: Pick One That Suits You

Posted by on 26th Jul 2009 Promote your blog 2 comments

Like any other good discussion there are people on both sides of what I like to call the sales copy versus personal Blog Marketingblog debate. I write both for different clients so I can see the benefits of each and how they suit different needs.

Blogs Not Articles

Remember this is about blogs not articles. There’s generally a two hundred to two hundred and fifty word generally agreed on limit here so which ever style you choose you need to be concise and get straight to the point.

And that’s why my personal favorite is the ‘sales copy’ blog. It poignant and tells you directly why you need the product or service while providing at least one highlight about  it. There’s a tone here to the writing that generally that makes the reader feel as if the writer is an expert reviewing the product or service.

It’s simple and beyond the links and carefully blended keywords, you could mistake the writing for something from a brochure or magazine advertisement.

We all need to be sure to get the best auto insurance available on the market today. And the Internet seems to be the way to get the most auto insurance quotes in the quickest time.

That’s the specialty of the qualified agents here at ACME Auto Insurance.

The other kind of blog takes a more modern approach to advertising. It works off the premise that the average person on the Internet doesn’t want to be hit over the head with a hard sell. I’m sure that different people have different terms for this kind of blog but I like to call it the personal blog.

Two Things Differently

Generally it does two things differently from the sales copy blog:

  • It takes a more personal  tone. This one is more like a conversation. Like two people sharing an imitate talk over a morning coffee.
  • It gives the reader a hint of a sales pitch but stresses the kind of information that they can take away and use.

So using this example, this sale copy blog would read something like this.

A friend of mine found out the other day that 80% of the accidents that happen on American roads are caused by people talking on their cells phones when driving.

That got me to thinking about how I could get some auto insurance quotes .

When I phoned my friend, she suggested ACME Auto Insurance.

There are people who prefer either one, and as long as you set the links and anchor text properly, the one you pick shouldn’t have a great effect either way on your seo efforts.

Good post regarding the burning issue. Actually Sales copies are written in a way that readers are taken to next line from line 1 and next, to the 'order now' page. On the other hand personal blog is written from one's perspective.
